Thought this might be a really interesting thread to set up.

Personally, I'm a massive library but. I've volunteered in libraries for most of my teenage years, so while all my fellow freshers are running round terrified about not being able to find books, I'm happily spurting off the Dewey Decimal system!

What books do you have out on loan? Waiting for many?

Right now, I've got Thrones, Dominations and The Madness Underneath. There are also 2 ebooks and 8 audio books on loan from the library. Library = My Happy Place! :-)

message 3: by Aitziber (new)

Aitziber I was a frequent visitor to the library when I was still in school, but these days I mostly read from my own library or download ebooks online.

Roseanne | 1239 comments Right now I only have an audio of Reached. Very unusual of me. Typically I have lots.

Man, audiobook loans sound awesome. Don't think anywhere nearby does them...

The university is like insanely big, and they don't have any modern editions of things, so most of them are really old and dusty and lovely. (Totally going weird now...).

So it's really amazing browsing the sections (800s in Dewey hell yes).

But currently I have The Study of Language, for my Introduction to Language module, Manhattan Transfer and The Book of Illusions are for my American Lit module, and Dracula, The Castle of Otranto and Maurice
for my personal reading!

It's max 25 books... I could reasonably hit that...

message 6: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments We have a 5 max on digital downloads but no max at the library. I know because I asked once. I had 15 books checked out (some were for the kids) and I was worried I wasn't going to get the one I was on hold for and they told me as long as you don't owe any money they don't stop you from checking stuff out. I love my library!

message 7: by Tracey (last edited Oct 04, 2014 09:23AM) (new)

Tracey | 916 comments I only do the digital library through our county library system, just because the library I like is out of the way. Plus, no late fees. We can check out a max of 6 ebooks at a time and a time limit of 21 days for each e-book. I have just one e-book out on my Kindle right now Between the Spark and the Burn and one on hold right now Carrie. I would put more on hold but I find that no matter how many people are on the wait list before me, they all coincidentally become available at the same time. I mean, there are times where I'm 50th in line for a book and will get it at the same time as the one where I was the only one on the waitlist.

My library has a "wishlist" where I can flag ebooks to remember which ones I want to check out. When one book comes off of hold, I put another one or two on, so I almost always have a library ebook on me unless I am planning on a stint of physical book reading.

I created a shelf in goodreads for the library. If books on my to-read list are available at the library (paper or ebook), I also add them to the library list. After I have read a library book, I remove it from that shelf.

I think there must be an unwritten rule somewhere that ALL books on hold become available on the same day!

I've also made a library shelf and I'm amazed at how many brilliant books you can get for free! I also have 'A Monster Calls' ready and waiting for the Halloween week challenge!

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Topazriver, I cannot believe how many interesting books and classics that count for Horror. This month has been my biggest surprise starting with Dracula. Love it!! I'm having a hard time not peaking into 'A Monster Calls.' I can here the monster calling me. :D
The book that I did not realize that was a classic is 'The Haunting of Hill House' so another book that is hard to put aside till the Big Thon!

Our library's limit is 50 physical books and 35 ebooks/e audiobooks. I've maxed out my account and my husband's for physical books, but I've never had more than 10 ebooks become available at any given time.

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments It has been many years since I've had a library card. Way back when my problem was I would read too slowly or would read the books so rarely that I would have to keep renewing the same books. I would usually limit myself to only having 2 or 3 books out. Now days I would have to make special library times in my schedule. They would also have to be fairly regular to avoid late fees. I'm not that regular with some stuff. Plus in recent weeks one of my favorite libraries in my area, which used to be my closest one till I moved 8 years ago, is closed for renovations which will take about 2 years or so to complete.

message 50: by Saphia210 (new)

Saphia210 | 10 comments Right now, I have Villette by Charlotte Brontë out from my school library, and the Mysteries of Udolpho on my Kindle. I am also going to borrow the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and I just returned Greyhound by Stefan Piper (great book!).
