The unnamed boy is walking through the forest when he is captured by the wolf. He is obviously going to be eaten by the wolf, so the boy thinks up a cleverly exciting recipe for the wolf, Boy Soup! The wolf sets off to gather all the ingredients named by the boy, including a barrel of brick and a trowel! However, he forgets the one vital ingredient – salt! The story continues in this fashion and the poor wolf gets more and more hungry and tired after his journeys to gather ingredients. The book is cleverly illustrated so we can see the frustration in the wolf’s face and the consequences of the ingredients gathered by the wolf in sealing his own fate.
A fun story is suitable for readers aged 6 and above for independent reading or for structured guided reading by looking at the sentence structure, punctuation, speech marks, etc. The book is also great for using the child’s imagination and reading between the lines and we can think beyond the text of what happens next.
Or it could be used in story time for younger readers as it is a funny and engaging story. Beware of Boys
