Ian Hall | 169 comments Hey everyone. I thought it would be a good idea to do a wheel of time re-read as i havnt done one in a few years. I had forgot just how many books there are, o well i am still looking forward to it. I have made a topic so i can keep track of what i am reading and let everybody know where i am up too. Wish me look.

Ian Hall | 169 comments Ok i got it thanks.

Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) I've re-read the first 4 books 2 times and all the books up to Sanderson twice.

It's tough, but worth it. Many people hate this series, many people don't. You'll be surprised that some books aren't as bad as you remember or people make out.

Some parts are worse.

Ian Hall | 169 comments I used to re-read this series before every new book came out. But i havnt done it in a while.

George Lightgood Ian, you and I might be on a similar reading path. I've never read it, though, and you are going for a reread. Greg suggested I give the WOT series a try, when he introduced himself last week. It is a series that will take some time, no doubt - 3 million plus words and counting.

"...Loathing it..." Don't know why, Heather, but that made me chuckle.

Ian Hall | 169 comments Its a great series george but you have to be patient with it.

message 8: by Greg (new)

Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) I think a lot of people hate this series because they wanted to love it but were burned. For many, this is the girlfriend that spurned them.

Oh, the relationship started out great, long reads, quiet nights together, the rush of excitement. But then it faded, and many readers got jaded.

That's no way to go through life.

Ian Hall | 169 comments Excuse me but this thread was for my re-read of wheel of time. And to keep people up to date on my progress. Not for people who hate the series to whine on and on.

message 10: by Greg (new)

Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) Oops, I know when to leave.

Ian Hall | 169 comments I dont mind people discussing wheel of time on here with me i just dont want the haters. Dont get me wrong this series annoys the hell out of me sometimes but i still it.

message 12: by jonah (new)

jonah I think that it might be more fun to read The Malazan Book of the Fallen books starting with Gardens of the Moon.

message 13: by jonah (new)

jonah I think we should really read Gardens of the Moon.Admit it, it would be fun!

Maggie K | 282 comments This site(Fantasy book club) has a series read site as well (Fantasy Book Club Series) where we did group reads of both these series!

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

This group here emphasizes stand-alones or first in a series, so we have the other site for those who wish to keep going!

Ian Hall | 169 comments This was a waste of time. There is no point posting any updates about my progress for this series because none of you care about it.

message 17: by Mathius (new)

Mathius ive just started book 10. (for the third time) i love the series....though it does take up a lot of time. Are you finding yourself as interested as you were during your first read through?

message 18: by Ian (new)

Ian Hall | 169 comments Hey mathius its on the back burner at the moment but yeh i still love it as much as the first time i read it.

message 19: by Nick (new)

Nick Marsden (nepharid) | 27 comments Ten years ago, I read the first few books over and over. I would read them again as the new ones came out. I stopped at book 9 when I couldn't follow the plot any longer. Now that the series is finally done, I wanted to go through them again. I couldn't get past the first few chapters of book 1. I think the idea of trudging through the whole series left me exhausted.

Tara (tarabookreads) I have never read the Wheel of Time series. Maybe because I know how much time it'll take to finish it. I do have it on my to read list but not sure when I would start. I did hear though it becomes a bit of a slow read towards the middle books and speeds up again towards the end.

message 21: by Anne (new)

Anne (arisgin) I am currently reading WOT for the first time--I'm in the middle of book 5. (Actually I'm listening to the audio version because I spend a lot of time in the car.)

To be honest, the Brandon Sanderson books waiting at the end were what motivated me to start the series in the first place, but I am enjoying it. It's like the fantasy version of a soap opera: exciting things are always happening, but nothing ever really changes!

Mat is my favorite character by far...I perk up every time it switches back to his POV.

It's really tough to get through those middle books, but the Sanderson ones definitely make up for it. In his books, I can't think of a single chapter that didn't move the plot forward in some way, which is a far cry from Jordan's last 3-4 books.

message 23: by Yordan (new)

Yordan Zhelyazkov (yordanzh) I just finished the whole series and while I liked them a lot, I can't imagine ever rereading them. They're just so many! If I ever do it, I guess I'll reread the first 3-4 and the last 3 - the middle ones dragged too much even for my taste - I liked them but purely because I loved the previous ones and wasn't objective. :)

Have fun on the reread tho - it's almost always fun to reread something that you haven't touched for 10+ years. An year ago I reread the Chronicles of Amber and it was loads of fun - when I first read them in my early childhood the whole thing looked so complicated and hard to grasp and now it was so simple and lightly pleasant - like a whole different series. :)
