I also read it for the first time recently. Just this summer, in fact. Also quite pleasantly surprised. I had all these expectations, which were completely unfounded. I loved the ambiguity of it! And the creepiness.
Jennifer Crusie did a take off on it in her latest romantic comedy. I knew what she was referencing but, now I've read the original, it's so much better.

I read it the other day, and enjoyed it far more than expected. And it actually freaked me out, which is rare for a book to do!
