I'm really glad you liked it! Unfortunately this was a big nope for me. Honestly I loved the beginning but it just steadily got worse for me. The beginning was absolutely lovely. The middle was wonky and out of place. The ending was a bunch of bullmalarkey. I felt like this whole book had multiple personalities. All she has to do was arrange it differently and it probably would've been fine. If it was me, I would've started with the court scene, then flashback, then court scene and flashback again, and repeat until they found the body. The court scenes would've been the bulk of the story with the flashbacks providing context to what was happening in the present and why. Also the ending would've been completely different. This could've been a good book but it just wasn't for me.

I could see it being slow for some people. I just loved how it ended. I felt the imagery was strong and beautiful. I wanted to escape into the marsh with her and see all of her little treasures.
I found her motivations for different interpersonal relationships to be the most interesting part. It wasn't plot-heavy, which I'm discovering I often enjoy.

I felt that way about the beginning, but the ending blew it for me. I felt like the psychology between the trial scenes and the ending didn't match at all, and it made the ending feel cheap and lazy. Maybe it could've worked if we weren't privy to her thoughts during the trial.
