Ian Hi. As you know, I'm keen to get more people involved in a virtual reading group in Devon. Had hoped I might be able to expand this group but think I need moderator status to do so. Have tried to contact the current moderator without success to get the permissions so think I am going to have to start a new group. If anyone from Devonreads is interested I'll keep you posted.

Ian Thanks. I'm going to contact all the book group co-coordinators in Devon, plus a Twitter network or two and see if I can muster support that way. Will let you know when it's live (hopefully over the weekend)

Carol Dobson Hi. Sounds interesting. Have you thought of a name for the new group? I think it needs to have Devon somewhere in the title, otherwise people from Devon will not find it.
Devon's a large county. Surprised this group didn't seem to take off.
42nd wedding anniversary soon. Hoping to visit Greenways, Agatha Christie's house as a treat, as have never been there.

Ian Devon Book Club to get it going, then possibly pill for a new name. bit if a hiccup as I broke my arm at the weekend, so that has distracted me a little.

where is Agatha Christie's house?

message 6: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson Devon Book Club sounds fine.
How did you break your arm?
Her house is near the Dart. If you go by car you have to book a parking space the day before, which is a bit off-putting, as it means planning in advance. Or I think there's a boat trip which goes near there. Or you can go on the steam railway and walk through the woods. Have been meaning to visit ever since it opened.

Ian Thanks. sounds fascinating. A ladder gave way under me, picking apples off my tree. Nothing out of the ordinary. Fell onto my arm and the damage was done.

Carol Dobson Oh dear. Sounds horrible.
Did you know that Agatha Christie grew up in Torquay? She worked at the Red Cross place during the war. It is said that that is where she found out about drugs and poisons.
She evidently wrote her first novel in 3 weeks at a hotel on Dartmoor and it took her 5 years to get a publisher for it.

Carol Dobson Have you heard any more about being the Moderator, Ian and setting up a new group?

message 10: by Ian (new)

Ian no response from this group's moderator so am going to start a new one. slight setback as I rather badly fractured my wrist a week ago so have been delayed in sorting it out. am going to do so though - watch thisd space.

best wishes
ian
