Jim (jimmaclachlan) I have quite a few books on my historical shelf here:

but I don't require that they be nonfiction. I'm never quite sure where to draw the line, anyway. A lot of historians skew or cherry pick facts. I prefer historical fiction since it gives me a better perspective & I supplement it by reading articles on specific points.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm listening to Before the Dawn: Recovering the Lost History of Our Ancestors by Nicholas Wade. Good book, bad way for me to read it in some ways. I don't know enough about the subject which is huge & complex. Since I'm listening, I can't refer back.

My ongoing review is here:

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm a big audio book fan & always looking for new material. One source that I haven't checked for a while is the Internet Archive. They have an Old Time Radio page that is full of various shows & include recordings of news broadcasts during the 20th century like Walter Winchell reporting about WWII & such. They're mixed in with syndicated shows like Lux Radio Theater & X Minus One. Well worth cruising through. I'm finally getting all of the latter as 3 downloads. I've been collecting these episodes for decades, but never got them all before.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris was well read, short, & to the point. I only gave it 4 stars because it wasn't properly titled. Oh, it was in the form of a letter, but I doubt any Christian would read it, unfortunately. My review is here:

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Not really historical, but it points out a real problem in our current society. I found Made by Hand: Searching for Meaning in a Throwaway World by Mark Frauenfelder in my library's audio book selection. I thought it would be interesting & it sure was. It was great to see what he discovered by trying to learn some DIY. It's more than just being handy, it's an entirely new way of looking at the world. I gave the book 4 stars in my review here:
