Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I finished Tea With the Black Dragon on Monday (http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...) and Close Her Eyes on Tuesday (http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...). I started The Dark Is Rising and The Winds of Marble Arch yesterday. This morning I started and half-finished before breakfast Smith of Wootton Major.

I'm playing it by ear this month as far as a reading plan. Decided to knock off quite a few short novels this week and next. I'll tackle something longer after the Labor Day weekend.

message 5: by Kate (new)

Kate Kulig (katekulig) I just got Naamah's Kiss from the library yesterday, and I'm about halfway through. Also picked up--two mysteries. I also plan to reread Coraline and Fragile Things Short Fictions and Wonders. There will be more, depending on what's published and what's at the library.

I think I have a couple of Patricia Briggs's older stuff around the house too.

message 6: by Libby (new)

Libby | 242 comments Per usual- too many good books and not enough time to read :-)

Just finished The Gunslinger
Currently reading:
The Big Sleep (AUDIO)
Two Front War, The
Sabriel
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies The Big Sleep

I've got these planned for Sept:
The Book of Lost Things
Nine Princes in Amber

and of course - Zodiac and The Briar King

Most of these are groups reads but its nice variety of SciFi / Fantasy / Mystery. If only I could just leave work now and go home and read ;-)

message 7: by Terence (new)

Terence (spocksbro) Steve Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen, books 1 thru 9...life is good.

But I'll probably break it up w/ some short novels (most likely Ivy Compton-Burnett) and nonfiction stuff just to keep the brain from overheating. "Too much of anything, even love, isn't a good thing" (to paraphrase Capt. Kirk).

message 8: by Barbm1020 (new)

message 10: by Brenda (new)

Brenda There is a great fantasy novel, Gateway to DreamWorld, which was released recently.

Synopsis: On their way home from baseball tryouts, Brad Colby and his two sons are involved in a terrible car accident that leaves six-year-old Pete in a coma. When Pete awakens, the family is crushed to learn that he is paralyzed.

Meanwhile, Pete’s eight-year-old brother, Jason, has been having powerful dreams that lead him to a mysterious realm known as DreamWorld. Jason discovers that all of his desires can come true in DreamWorld, but the time is fast approaching when he will have to choose between his two worlds.

And when more devastating news strikes at the heart of the Colby family, Jason and Pete set out on a desperate attempt to find the Gateway to DreamWorld and save their family. With time running out on their dangerous path, will Jason and Pete’s fear of the Unknown keep them from reaching the paradise of their dreams?

I invite you to order your copy now from Amazon.com or Barnes&Nobles.com at a discounted price.

Please help by spreading the word to your friends who enjoy reading a good book and be one of the firsts to pick up your copy of Gateway to DreamWorld.

Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy the fantasy.

Brenda Estacio

Cameron (cswagner) I just finished The Crown Conspiracy today, and I now I hope to get to Sabriel next. Not sure what else is in store for September. We'll see.

message 12: by Arthur (last edited Sep 08, 2009 12:54PM) (new)

Arthur (astra) A few days ago finished the Tawny Man trilogy by Robin Hobb. I wish she never wrote it and I never read it. Big disappointment.
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Started Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. I must get to know a writer who is going to finish series that brought Fantasy to me.

message 13: by Mir (new)

Mir Just started The Affinity Bridge. The first scene was pretty exciting.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Just started Chasing the Dragon by Justina Robson - Book 4 in her Quantum Gravity series. (The worst thing with reading series is forgetting half of what happened in the time it takes for the next book to come out... )

message 15: by Linda (new)

Linda Nguyen Just started Best Served Cold.

Listening to The Lies of Locke Lamora.

Finishing AGAIN A Game of Thrones. Hoping to get through this series once more. Can't quite remember all of the parts.

Finishing The Star Scroll. Like this one better than the first, but still not my favorite fantasy series. I will finish it though.

message 16: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Just finished Legend by David Gemmell yesterday. I was pretty impressed with Gemmell's knowledge of military tactics and I thought the characters were pretty 3-Dimensional.

Now starting on War for the Oaks by Emma Bull for the discussion in October. :)

JG (Introverted Reader) I'm about halfway through Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games, and I love it so far!

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Finished The Thirteenth Tale last night, and now it's back to Extraordinary Engines The Definitive Steampunk Anthology. After that it's either Dead Until Dark or Urban Shaman for the UF group read.

message 24: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments Finished Heroes Die yesterday and started Imager The First Book of the Imager Portfolio, which I'm enjoying quite a bit.

message 25: by Arthur (new)

Arthur (astra) Finished Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson.

Good read. Maybe a bit on a light side, even for me and the ending is bit....not bad but sort of unfinished? Or unsatisfactory finished. I would like to learn a bit more about characters after the epilogue. Maybe he will write a sequel later? Anyone knows?
I also has a feeling that Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light lended some ideas for the book. Althought, I didn't like Lord of Light.

I enjoyed Warbreaker. I started to read it with trepidation. The first book by the writer who is going to finish WoT (my first favourite fantasy saga). I was not disappointed! Looking forward to reading his Mistborn Trilogy one day.

Have not decided on my next read yet. I think I got tired of fantasy right now. Maybe I will read some sci-fi, or even mystery/crime!???

message 26: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cswagner) Arthur,
I too felt like Warbreak was unfinished. I'm not sure if there is going to be a sequel or not, but if there is I doubt it would be any time soon. He is pretty occupied at the moment with WoT, and he has a new series coming out sometime soon called the Way of Kings. Anyway, let me know what you think of the Mistborn trilogy, once you get the chance.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Just started Dead Until Dark yesterday evening, and already on page 120. It's a fast read - but my main impression so far is 'wow - Sookie's rather annoying, isn't she?' Aside from that, though, it's entertaining enough.

message 28: by Clansman (new)

Clansman Lochaber Axeman Reading Iron Elves A Darkness Forged in Fire now. Quite enjoyable so far. Also taking another stab at Erikson's Memories of Ice, in which I just haven't been able to "get going".

message 29: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Arthur and Cameron,

There is a sequel of sorts planned for Warbreaker, following Vasher and Vivenna. But, yes, it will probably be about 10 years out.
