William Kulas The book I read over the summer was Unbroken. It was a really good book that I would highly recommend to everyone. The story is about a boy named Louis Zamperini, who growing up, was always a very mischievous and rebellious child. He broke laws, stole things, and was rude to everybody. When he would get in trouble, he would have to run way, and he was very good at getting away, so his brother Pete decided to see if Louis would be a good runner. He begins heavily training and ends up being an extremely good runner. But then everything goes south when he gets drafted into World War II. He’s in a bomber crew and they crash while in battle. Find out what happens next by reading this novel. My favorite character is Louis. I like him the most because he is very adventurous and is always up for a challenge. He is also very good at overcoming adversity. He got through prison camps, endless training, injuries, and countless other things. I also liked Pete because throughout the whole story, he was always nice and supportive of everyone. He helped Louis realize his dream, and then achieve it. This book is based off a true story. During World War II, many young men were ripped away from their lives and families when they were drafted. They had to go out there and risk their lives for our country’s safety. Louis was running and competing in many races and was doing very well, but because of the war, all of his dreams were ruined. This was a very common situation back then, due to the constant need of soldiers during the war. When I first started the book, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it since it started out very slow. But after finishing the book, I am so glad I read it, and it is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. I think everyone should read this novel, it was very good, and I can’t wait to share it with other people.
