I picked up a copy of this at the library yesterday and hope to start it soon. Trying to finish another library book in the next day or 2. :-)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I've requested it and should have it by next weekend. That'll give me time to finish my challenge book (game ends this week) and my F2F book club read ...

I finished this one this morning. Found the ending a let-down. I won't say more until someone else has read it.

Between this one, 1984 and another that I'm listening to, I need a happy book.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Just finished this morning. Found the writing poetic in places. Stunned by the ending, but given the setting not sure it could have ended any differently.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Is anyone else reading this month's selection. It's a really short novel - 208 pg in the hardcover edition.

Mine was the paperback and I think it was 196 pages.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Here is a question to start us off ...

Which character did you empathize with most?

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I guess no one else is reading so I'll post my review ...

Swallows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra The Swallows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra – 4****
This short novel follows two couples in a Taliban-run Kabul. Khadra writes with poetic detail about a city which the residents no longer recognize as their own. They struggle to make sense of a culture that is at once familiar and foreign. This is a tragedy, and things will not end well for all these characters. But I feel that I have gained a little understanding of the situation by reading this novel, and for that I’m grateful.
