Hugo | 6 comments Hi all! I've just discovered this group! I'm an "old" ST fan who still enjoys what's going on today, possibly with the exception of the JJ Abrams relaunch.

I just finished reading The Fall series, and I wonder what would be the logical next step to read. Would Section 31 Disavowed be the right choice, or is anything else better suited as a logical continuation to the whole story?

Bruce | 44 comments Yes, Section 31 Disavowed would be the next step in that story arc. That book releases in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I recommend the ebook, Lust's Latinum Lost (and Found). It's a short read and takes place on the new DS9. Although it doesn't add anything to The Fall story arc, it falls within this time frame continuation and is a fun, quick read before Disavowed.

Hugo | 6 comments Great, thank you very much! It's not easy keeping up with the right reading order, and because of that I didn't know if I should read Disavowed or TNG The Light Fantastic first. But I guess The Light Fantastic is a continuation of the Cold Equations story arc and hasn't got much to do with The Fall, although TLF is apparently set in November 2385, which is after the end of The Fall.

Bruce | 44 comments You might want to read The Fantastic Light. I just read that Disavowed picks up from threads in The Fall, Cold Equations and Mirror Universe novels. I'm behind on the mirror universe, but I'm sure you don't have to read all novels to follow Disavowed.

Hugo | 6 comments Lust's Latinum Lost (And Found) was hilarious! It was short, but so much fun to read!

And now that I'm reading Disavowed, I'm positively intrigued by the Mirror Universe. I might even want to go and read the MU books.

But this aside, what would be the next logical book after Disavowed to keep this thread going? I see that there is a TNG novel "Takedown" and a DS9 story "The Missing". Are they connected to the ongoing story arc? And if so, in what sequence should they be read? (Or is there anything else I should read after S31 Disavowed?)

message 6: by Bruce (new)

Bruce | 44 comments I read The Missing and Takedown after Disavowed. I think that is the chronological order, but the books stand on their own and really do not relate to each other very much. As a matter of fact, JJM states that Takedown takes place simultaneously with The Missing.

Hugo | 6 comments Thanks, Bruce!

Anni | 6 comments Here you have a great chart what to read next, and how it related to other books. It's been updated very recently, so all books from last (and some from this) year are there.

Hugo | 6 comments Cheers, Anni, that's very useful!

Chris | 27 comments I loved the Fall as well and it was my start with the new Trek Lit verse. I am now working my way forward with the new releases, and going back and starting from the "A Time to..." series as well. I am nearly done with the latter, and I just hit the halfway mark on Takedown. Some are better than others, but it's all fun and interesting for the fans.

I'm sorry, but this list is pathetic. It leaves out so much more than it includes. For example, Cox's book (Foul Deeds Will Rise), which is one of our group's books of the month and published last year, (I am enjoying it currently) isn't included. Where are Alan Dean Foster's Logs, etc.? Of the 70 Star Trek books currently on my shelves, I can find only a few on this chart. Sad!

I came across this a while back. Very helpful. Obviously, if you are looking for TOS books you'll have to look elsewhere, but for most other series you'll find it in the graphic as well as how it is connected with other books.

Dan you are right to an extent, the chart is just a suggested flow chart for the modern universe. The guys who created it admit it is not nearly a full spectrum of the Trek Lit verse, just their assessment of the flow of things in recent years (and mostly post-Nemesis).

I also like this site, http://startreklitverse.yolasite.com/ for a more comprehensive look at the various available threads and books (though it is also not complete).

Much more impressive, though not visual with a flow chart. Anyway, thanks. This I can use.

message 15: by Hugo (new)

Hugo | 6 comments Indeed, now that's something! Thank you, I did not know this.

message 16: by Anni (new)

Anni | 6 comments Dan, I don't think the flowchart is even supposed to be a comprehensive list. It's more of a guide of how the events and crews relate one to another from one book to another.

For someone who tries to get to post-Nemesis novels it can be very useful. "Foul Deep Will Arise" is NOT a post-Nem book, and can be easily placed within the movie era. But if someone wants to read what happened to the DS9 crew after the show's end - this should be very handy.

That is very helpful for trying to determine a reading order.

Another reference tool - useful for checking your collection - is comprehensive lists by type of media (episodes, movies, books, comics, audiobooks, etc.), with publishers and titles on Memory Beta. (TOS even listed the Peter Pan records from the late 70s.) There is a dropdown menu for books for each series.
