Okay, so I can actually agree with most of those books! I'm surprised that there are only 39 books on the list though...LOL

Michelle (shadowrose) I'm not surprised at the list though I dislike the order some are in

Jaimie (jaimie476) What about Dracula? Honestly, I'm not a fan of the paranormal romance thing. I read the Laurel K Hamilton Anita Blake books up to #15ish but then they started being less about the story and more about how many supernatural beings Anita Blake could have sex with in a row. I read the first Sookie Stackhouse novel and really enjoyed it until the end.
I'm reading a really great vampire series now byJeanne Kalogridis. The first one takes place 40-ish years before the events in Dracula and the last one is somewhat of a retelling of Dracula.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic These are not listed in Rank order only in order by which the person making the list put them on there. If the person adds 10 you can add yours as well. So 39 is the "beginning". So what's missing? What should be the first 3?

I have not read Anita Blake but I hear mixed views about LKH. I personally like Jeaniene Frost and Sherrilyn Kenyon [though her world involves vamps and isn't about vamps exclusively:].

Your rec sounds good Jaimie, thanks! If you give me the name of Book 1 I will add the series to listopia.

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments This is my list of vampire books. I have been reading vampire stories near half century, and really love them. I wish people would write serious ones again. As in well researched and believable.
1. Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu novellete
2. Dracula by Braum Stoker is the vampire masterpiece
In both these books the writers have created original & insteresting vampires. They did their research into Gothic vampire beliefs of Eastern Europe. The vampires can walk in the daylight. Which makes being a vamp so much more fun.
3. Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris are the only series stories about vampires/supernatural romance/mystery that I like. They are just fun, and entertaining to read. Did I mention hot?
4. There are several Gothic(middle age beliefs)style short stories I like allot. You can find most of them free online or in vampire compilations. Penguin,Mammoth.
The Mystery of the Compagna
The Tomb of Sarah
The Vampyre
Mysterious Stranger
The Vampire Maid
The Blood is the Life
All free at http://horrormasters.com/Themes/vampi...
If you know of any new gothic style single book vampire works. Please hook me up. I really love a good well thought out vampire story. Modern setting is fine. I just like the curios old vampire superstitions.

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments That one is a good movie. I tried reading Anne Rice once. I forget the book. This guy was living in a castle and got attacked by wolves in the winter. I just didn't have the patience for it. I would like to check Anne Rice out again. I would like to read Anne Rices first vampire book.

Kenecia (temperamentalme) You have to be committed to read Rice. She's my favorite author, but her attention to detail can be overwhelming at times.
