A thought on what the author said concerning our (US citizens) outlook on thr Americas, and out disregard for the history of Latin America and disregard for it’s importance, and the view of the all-important, and forever important role of out beloved USA.

I realized that I subconsciously do that, and have even though I have been studying this history for some time now.

What the Hispanic people accomplished was outright amazing. As a collector of silver coins, I learned many years ago that the first international money was Spanish coinage, primarily from the Americas and primarily from Nueva España aka Mexico.

It was held in such esteem that in most of the Chinas, only Spanish coins were acceptable, and into the late 1800s it was considered legal US currency as well. Our dollar was completely based on the Spanish 8 real, or piece-of-eight for those pirates out there.

This was due to the integrity of weight and purity of the Spanish coinage. Those who minted Spanish coinage had the choice of honesty and accuracy or a swift death. And it worked well.

That is truly quite an accomplishment. That isn’t even going into the schools and universities built in Latin America in the 16th century, nor the architecture, art and music. All of this with none of the tech we in the US have to claim world dominance.
