I chose Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee, because after reading her first book, To Kill a Mockingbird, I wanted more. I loved Harper Lee’s first work so I decided to read Go Set a Watchman to get a different angle of the story. I really liked Go Set a Watchman it took a different and fast forwarded approach to To Kill a Mockingbird and helped me get a better understanding of the characters of the book and the main storyline of living in Maycomb Alabama in the 1900’s. The book begins with the daughter of the famous lawyer Atticus Finch, Jean Loise Finch or her nickname Scout returning back to Maycomb Alabama after spending the year in New York at school. Scout remembers her past memories like her friend Dill and her older brother Jem who died. As she stays in Maycomb she recognizes the racism and segregation that has taken over the city and she feels deeply disturbed. She’s so upset about is that Scout and her father get into a heated argument and fall out because of it. Will the Finches overcome racism that has put their family and the city of Maycomb in shambles or will it continue to control the town? I would recommend this book for anyone who likes to read about the pass and how much the world has changed. I especially recommend this book for readers who enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird.
