Vampire Academy discussion

So I read this novel when I was a preteen and now it’s an itch that I just need to satisfy. The plot is like this: young female in Europe (Italy I think) gets married to an old merchant. She gets turned into a vampire during the plague by a male vampire who’s her husbands friend. He also forces a miscarriage by use of medicine I think.

Then she’s on the run from the male vampire in present day where she’s going to high school and meets a human boy.

I can’t even remember if the book was good. But I just need to satisfy my need to know the books title. If anyone knows this book please tell me the name of the book.
