Marlise (mawz76) | 171 comments Fall is here! Let's change things up for the next selection! On James' list there are quite a few authors with three or more works chosen.

So from now through October 4th, let's nominate an author that has 3 OR MORE books on the list. After the nominations, there will be 2 consecutive polls.

The first poll (10/5 - 10/9) will decide which author we want to read.

The second poll (10/10 - 10/14) will decide which of that author's books (from the list) we will be reading for November. All works on the list by that author will be polled.

An easy way to scroll down and see who has mutiple books on the list is by using Andrea's handy dandy spreadsheet, as it is ordered alphabetically by author. Here is the link...

Please post your nominations below...

Marlise (mawz76) | 171 comments I nominate Jane Austen. Because I figure I really should read one of her novels before I die 😬

Bryan--The Bee’s Knees (theindefatigablebertmcguinn) | 141 comments I nominate Beckett

What a great idea! I nominate Jane Austen, too.

message 5: by Janet (new)

Janet I nominate Mervyn Peake - he wrote the Gormenghast trilogy, which I keep hearing about but somehow never get around to reading.

Oh yes, she is a master of dialogue.

Marlise (mawz76) | 171 comments Hey all. I've shortened the polling dates for the November read to 5 days each. This is to give members more time to procure a copy, based on some concerns that were expressed to me. I think 5 days for each poll is ample time, as it seems this group votes pretty quickly and then we're usually just waiting around for the poll to end.

Diane (smilingatu6) Jane! I am reading P&P, loving it and would like to read them all.

@Diane, P&P stands for...?

message 11: by Marlise (new)

Marlise (mawz76) | 171 comments Pride and Prejudice

message 12: by Kyle (new)

Kyle (kylejsmithers) I'd love to read Asimov but I can get behind Austen as well.
Oooh, or Robert Caro.

Kyle (kylejsmithers) And thanks for the spreadsheet! It is fantastic and probably took a lot of time to create.

Pick one! So we can add it to the nomination list! I think I'll send another message out so we can get some more choices.

Yes, I was so happy when Andrea offered the list. It makes it easier to look at in that format.

message 16: by Jane (new)

Jane Huttner | 157 comments I nominate Isaac Asimov for the Foundation Trilogy: Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation.
These are the books James recommends; however, there are actually 7 books in the Foundation series: Prelude to Foundation and Forward the Foundation which occur before Foundation and Foundation's Edge and Foundation and Earth which follow the trilogy. I have never found time to read this series.
I have already read all of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens but I could get behind Peake and the Gormenghast trilogy.

Diane and Jane, I've read all of Jane Austen's book. I really liked all of them, but especially 'Emma.' I thought that was her best book of all.

Marlise (mawz76) | 171 comments Okay great! I'll add Asimov. And also Caro, since Kyle mentioned him!
