The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle

She was magical, beautiful beyond belief—and completely alone...

The unicorn had lived since before memory in a forest where death could touch nothing. Maidens who caught a glimpse of her glory were blessed by enchantment they would never forget. But outside her wondrous realm, dark whispers and rumours carried a message she could not ignore: "Unicorns are gone from the world."

Aided by a bumbling magician and an indomitable spinster, she set out to learn the truth. but she feared even her immortal wisdom meant nothing in a world where a mad king's curse and terror incarnate lived only to stalk the last unicorn to her doom...

Valeria (valea22) | 64 comments Having watched the movie as a little girl, and loved it and I have had the book pending for many years. I was a bit scared of having the book to be very different from the movie. But I’ve read it now and I was pleased to find that I loved it. And that it was truly faithful to it.

I will read the short sequel that it was included on my copy.
Happy reading !!

D Dyer | 66 comments I was actually struck in reading this by how much of the detail in the book wasn’t included in the movie. I remember watching the movie as a kid and enjoying it but was not sure if this book would hold my attention reading it as an adult. I was pleasantly surprised by how much depth this book had and how well written it was.
