What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book between 2001 and 2003
The book starts with a girl being locked into a chamber or cave for her own safety, she has barrels of food and drink and things, but they have run out. she is plaiting or knotting strings or ropes together to keep alive a flame from a lamp, which she can do through her magical powers, to at least have light until her rescue (which is long overdue). people eventually find her chamber and free her. everything seems to be taking place in a medieval-ish world, I remember one sentence where they state that they were drinking chocolate, a rare treat that has only recently arrived from overseas. there is at least one more girl who has magical powers, too, but possibly looking for others to work together.
