Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Please understand that my suggestion of putting planned reads here at the start of the week is for the benefit of the team and your benefit, and so that we can see what you are reading :D.

Please at the minimum just tell us how many books you plan to read for the week so we can make sure we aren't over or under the range. Thanks!

By adding your books here we can also double check your book and sin cover color, genre, or criteria before you spend time reading a book that might not work for a reason you overlooked.

Ok, for the week of October 07, 2019 This is what I plan to read

1. Down Too Deep Down Too Deep (Dirty Deeds, #4) by J. Daniels , Cover Color: Blue
2. Christmas in Harmony Harbor Christmas in Harmony Harbor by Debbie Mason , Genre: Contemporary
3. Murder at Kensington Palace Murder at Kensington Palace (A Wrexford & Sloane Mystery Book 3) by Andrea Penrose , Cover Color: Red
4. Theft of Swords Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations, #1-2) by Michael J. Sullivan , Cover Color: Yellow (Approved on Captains thread)
5. Capturing the Devil Capturing the Devil (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #4) by Kerri Maniscalco , Genre: YA
6. Kingdom of Exiles Kingdom of Exiles (The Beast Charmer, #1) by Maxym M. Martineau , Cover Color: Blue
7. An Import of Intrigue An Import of Intrigue (The Maradaine Constabulary, #2) by Marshall Ryan Maresca , Cover Color: Brown (approved in "Does this Book Work Thread message #210)
8. To Love a Wolf To Love a Wolf (SWAT #4) by Paige Tyler , Genre: Contemporary
9. Gideon the Ninth Gideon the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #1) by Tamsyn Muir , BOM book, Genre: YA

If all goes according to plan I will net us......468 points.

Siren's Fury is such a pretty cover.

Did anyone notice that Gideon is wearing a pair of sunglasses, lol. Look at the cover closely.

Sophie | 182 comments For the week of October 7th I plan to read:
1. Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove, #1) by Shelby Mahurin Genre: YA (79.2 rounded to 79 + 3 for genre=82)

2. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson Sin bingo. Cover: Green, YA, read by Lexi from Team Acedia (45.6 for pages rounded up to 46 + 7 bingo points =53 points)

3. War Girls (War Girls, #1) by Tochi Onyebuchi Cover is blue (46.4 rounded to 46, 5 for sin cover=51 points)

Total: 186 points

I have some long books I want to read for this challenge so I'll probably get started on at least 1 next week as well though I doubt I'd finish.

Ooh War Girls, I am looking forward to reading that book :D

For book #1, black is not one of the sin colors. The only cover colors we get credit for are:

Red for Lust
Green for Envy
Purple for Pride/Vanity
Brown for Wrath
Blue for Sloth
Pink for Gluttony
Yellow for Avarice/Greed

BUT the book is YA genre so points wise it still rocks 79 + 3 = 82 :D

I like your plan for the larger books, too.

For Lover Revealed it would be rounded down to 81 points + 5 points for a total of 86 points.

Per the rules this is how we are handling the rounding:

Where % pages result in a fraction of a book, calculate the #books by rounding up or down from .5 (standard maths rules apply)
i.e. 30.4 rounds to 30 books; 40.6 rounds to 41 books; 49.5 rounds to 50 books

Oh oops! I don't know why I thought it was, I even have a spreadsheet of my own with the categories lol. Oh well, YA works too :D

I got a physical arc of War Girls a few weeks ago so I need to sit down and finally read it, I need to get my review up before it gets published! So yay to this challenge for giving me a kick in the butt.

yeah same, I don't understand how everyone else can just say beforehand already which 3-8 books they're going to read lol! I'm just like ?!?!?!!? I'm such a mood reader, this doesn't make sense to me at all x)

I did start this version of HP3 tonight but I don't know which physical or ebook I'm going to start once I get some time (maybe when traveling, but I might be too tired)

lol, as a book reviewer I live by a schedule plus I want to finish reading all the physical books I have not read but have bought.

So I already had a list of books I want to read and I just organized them according to ARCs that needed to be read and then books I wanted to read.

message 20: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments And I understand about mood reading. I do. I just am looking for numbers so that I know ahead of time if we are going to be coming under the range of books we need to read.

If I know we are going to be under then some team member may want to step up to make sure we aren't hit with the penalty points.

Remember that as a team we need to read 30 books minimum per week to not be penalized.

If we read between 30 - 46 books per week we get 50 extra points

Teams that stay in the 80% - 120% reading range get an additional 50 points
Teams that fall below the 80% mark get a penalty of -20 points
Teams that go over the 120% cap but stay under the 250% get a penalty of -100 points
Teams that go over the 250% mark get a penalty of -200 points

message 21: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments So, I am not being a task master :D with asking for numbers, I just don't want to be penalized when we will all be reading so hard for this challenge.

Thanks!

I already would have chosen one of my library books to read if I weren't traveling Tues-Thurs, but I made the decision not to bring a book along and just read something on my phone if I feel like it and lbr, I will quite surely end up buying one book at the very least 😅

message 24: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments For those of us (myself included) who are absolute mood readers, my recommendation would be to just make sure you're posting your completed books as quickly as possible. That way we can have as accurate a running total as possible so as we get closer to the end of the week we can see if we need to beef up our totals or not.

I will keep a weekly running total HERE with covers. I'll make sure to update it each night so we know we're not falling behind.

No, finished books get posted in the reporting thread and that is enough. This thread is for discussing the books you plan to read at the beginning of the week.

You enter them on the reporting thread spreadsheet that Shelby created:

but the official TT spreadsheet is captain only entering. :D

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments I think it's a great idea to see how many books peeps plan on reading so we can plan accordingly. Migraines are the worst! I hope it passes quickly! I have knocked out 4 books and now I plan to read just 1 book per day until I finish on Saturday. I was nervous about my choices this week because of how big they were so I have been reading like crazy and know I have a bit of a headache, lol

No, books don't need to be finished weekly. The push to finish a certain amount of books per week is due to the penalty that we will receive for reading over or under our range.

As long as you start a book after the challenge start date it can be used anytime during the challenge. So you can take a month to read a certain book and it will count during the week that you actually finish it.

Hope this helps.

You can always feel free to ask on sin chat but the cover decisions are made as a team. Shelby or I can always make a final decision. Also, they are really against using Tineye this challenge.

So, I will let you know that yes that book is a sin bingo.

@Mamacita

Was looking at the book in your Towers folder and you need to have the actual version you read tagged for Lover Revealed.

This is the one in your folder:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

but this is the one you actually rated:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

The one that is in the folder has to be the actual version you read, can you please shelve the correct edition? Thank you :D

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments Actually I think I did it all wrong. The cover color for Wrath is different than the pages I calculated. I can use it as Lust Sin Bingo tho. So should I change the edition?

Melissa Reads (minxreadsalot) | 2485 comments Mamacita wrote: "Actually I think I did it all wrong. The cover color for Wrath is different than the pages I calculated. I can use it as Lust Sin Bingo tho. So should I change the edition?"

I am not sure which version you read. The one that is in your folder currently would definitely be a lust sin bingo. If that is the version you read then you would need to change your rating to that edition.

Then you would need to tag that edition and its page count when you enter the book on this spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Yes, that is fixed and your shelf looks beautiful, just add your books to the reporting thread spreadsheet

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

and Shelby and I will discuss the cover. Ultimately it is for us to fret about :D.

Here are the instructions for linking in the reporting thread spreadsheet:

Mama, I moved the books from your "mama tab" to the group reporting thread.

When you go to the spreadsheet and see the tabs scroll over them all the way to the left and you will see the "reporting thread," look there, under the reporting thread, and you will see how the books are to be entered. Thanks.

2. Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia YA

3. Unquiet Land (Elemental Blessings, #4) by Sharon Shinn I don't think this one works for any colors either so I'll say YA as well
