DoodlePanda | 1226 comments As we are getting closer to the end of the year, I was wondering if any of you have started planning any challenges for next year?

message 2: by Bianca (new)

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments I have been thinking about it for the past week or so.

Since I've been spending more time on other hobbies this year, and my reading challenge has become a bit of a stress thing for me, I have decided to lower my goals: 75 books and 30000 pages. I might lower it even more in the end, depending how I feel by the end of December.

I might want to do something about the huge, virtual pile of first-in-series I have, which is getting rather ridiculous. But again, I see how I feel about that in December.

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I did 75 books this year which I've just reached, and I think I'll keep that next year as i don't want to pressure myself too much.
I'm really liking the bingo, so I think I want to do a version of that next year too.

I kinda want to get through some of the books on my "want to read owned", would any of you be up for picking some books for me? Either just random or books you have read and liked or whatever :)

Other than that I haven't really planned anything yet.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments I loved the Bingo! I have been stressed and have not focused on challenges this year.

I'd love to do a Bingo, however.

message 5: by Dazrin (new)

Dazrin | 216 comments I cut way back on what I was doing this year, dropping my goal by about 20%, and I still may not finish it. I was done in September last year even with the higher goal. I did finish my Bingo boards in June though and only need 17 words to finish "Word on the Street". I never expected to finish that one. (I need to check if I have updated the boards in the main list....)

With that, I'm not sure what I want to do yet. But it probably won't be any more than this year, quite possibly lower unless I come out of this reading funk.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments I will continue to join the Mobile Reads and Goodreads challenges, but other than trying to read 3,000 pages monthly not sure I will do other challenges. The PopSugar challenge was fun and I was able to incorporate owned books into it, but still, had to include unowned books to complete. I hate failing challenges. So, focus is on owned and series books. I can change up some of the stuff by reading/listening to some of the outrageous number of books I bought in 2013 (first year of Whispersync) as some are not part of series.

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I'm kinda focusing on the same thing next year, and trying to get through some of the Kindle books I own!
I do want to still do bingo as well tho, I just find it so fun :D

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments In addition to just reading stuff, I've got some other personal goals for next year that I'm contemplating sort of including into my 2020 challenge thread.

For example, my "Learn Something Every Day" goal. I'm contemplating including the highlights from that into my challenge thread, even though it's not limited to books - my learning will be from many sources, such as online courses, podcasts, websites, books, magazines, TV shows... everywhere. But I was thinking that maybe I'd include a monthly summary of sorts in my thread, with some of the most interesting, unexpected or just enlightening things from the month.

Thoughts?

message 9: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments that sounds really interesting, I'd be up for learning what you learned :D

message 10: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I don't know if I'm the only one that wants to do the bingo again next year?

Can i just make a new tab in the 2019 setup Dazrin? I feel like it would be too much work to do a new setup just for me, and I'm happy with using the same one :)

message 11: by Dazrin (new)

Dazrin | 216 comments Go for it. I think it should work fine and I won't take it down.

I have updated the template to say 2020, the only thing to watch out for is that you don't try to use the same name as 2019.

Perfect! Thank you! <3

Beth | 4 comments My name is Beth and I'm new to the group. My daughter recently mentioned she had been participating in book challenges for a few years now. Outside of the general Goodreads number of books challenge, I was unaware that this was a thing. I've been doing a lot of research into my challenge options, but have yet to find a genre specific challenge. Are they usually done through genre specific groups here on Goodreads? I would greatly appreciate any info regarding challenges. Thank you!!

message 14: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Hi Beth! Welcome!

When you say 'genre-specific', do you mean a challenge while staying within one specific genre, or a challenge that is meant to cover X number of genres?

For the former, there are quite of few on this 2020 Master List at girlxoxo: https://www.girlxoxo.com/the-master-l... There are probably some of those going on in genre groups here on GR, hopefully someone else can chime in about that. I'm not in very many groups and I'm terrible at keeping up with most of them except for this one and our off-shoot group, Reading Gamers.

For the latter, I'm pretty sure most of us in this group have done at least one of those over the years.

Some of our members have been involved in some pretty creative challenges! For a sampling you can look in the yearly individual challenge discussion folders and randomly click on some past threads. Mine are pretty boring. It seems that as soon as I tell myself I need to read something, I no longer want to read it. I'm a contrarian. LOL

Feel free to start a thread for yourself in the 2020 Individual Challenges folder! Most of us format them with the first handful of posts "reserved" to later enter our challenges info, etc then the rest is a discussion free for all.

Your correct in that I was searching for a challenge that was all within the same genre. My daughter is involved in one on another group, but that particular genre is not my thing. I'm already getting involved in a book bingo challenge that spans a number of genre's and possibly a catch up on the classics challenge. Thank you for the info and the kind welcome.

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I've got my challenge figured out. It's along the lines of Christa's include personal challenges in it.

wordSmiths challenge: read twenty books that have a word in the title from a Smiths song (no repeating songs.) Bonus points for learning part of the song on guitar.

My plan for 2020 is to not plan. I have no idea what’s heading my way. So, I’ll just set the obligatory goal of 12 books and keep my fingers crossed.

(((Hugs to all who accept them)))

*HUGS*

I have the same goal. Just to get some reading done. I'm still feeling pretty burned out.

Honestly, I'm also going to try to read a bit more of my groups books...but making no promises there.
