John (jkbrown2) | 89 comments I had started The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by John Joseph Adams a collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories by current authors. Some of the tales are straight mysteries, while some have a sci-fi or horror them. The first story was by Stephen King and was, oddly enough, a straight mystery tale. I just won In the Company of Sherlock Holmes: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon by Laurie R. King on Goodreads First Reads. It is also a collection of short stories including one by one of my favorite authors, Michael Connelly. I'm putting the other book aside temporarily and starting the new book. I need to review it before it hits the shelves Nov. 14th.

Barbara | 347 comments Well, I just saw this old thread - be interesting to know what Holmes books/stories people are reading.
Right now, I am reading the MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories, Part V - it's all Christmas time tales, one they did many years ago. They did another one recently.
Also reading The Revenge of the Hound, by Michael Hardwicke, written about 35 years ago.
I'll probably review both when I finish them .

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 307 comments I just finished a collection of Conan Doyle's non-Holmes short stories. Most of them were pretty simple puzzles, some with a supernatural tone, and most of them paled beside his Sherlockian tales. I thought "The Lost Special", "The Case of Lady Sannox," and "The Brazilian Cat" were the most vivid.

Barbara | 347 comments If I remember "The Lost Special" about a couple train cars that disappear, there was some mention of consulting a London detective who had a knack for solving puzzles - alluded to Sherlock Holmes, but not a Sherlock Holmes story.
I remember reading the Lady Sannox story and being really creeped out.
