What are your first impressions? No spoilers here, please.

Michael (michaeljsullivan) So glad this was picked as it's been on my TBR pile and gave me a good reason to move it up in the queue. I'm listening to the audiobook version, and while I'm only barely started it, I'm really enjoying it so far.

Sadie I just purchased my copy and I'm excited to start reading. This book seems to get nominated quite often, so I'm glad it's finally on the reading list for the monthly reading. :) looking forward to some good discussions

Janny (jannywurts) | 807 comments Loved this - great read, has tremendous suspense and well drawn conflict and characters. Looking forward to the discusison.

Benjamin (ben21) Finished this book earlier this year, and its sequel a couple weeks ago. Very good series.

Lioth | 63 comments Started today, and I'm at chapter 2.
First impression: good character, fascinating world (well, the city so far).
I'm hooked.

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I may have to join in on this read. I've had this ebook for months and never seem to get around to reading it. I have a few days off from work this month so I should have more time to devote to reading.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I read this a while ago so chose it when I was given the privilege of picking the group's November read. I found it very suspenceful and gripping. Hope you all enjoy it, too!

message 11: by Jack (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jack (Pernicious) This is a good choice for a read, as the third and final novel in this trilogy should be released soon.
I have really enjoyed this series and plan to re-read the set when I get word of a release date, this is a series I would recommend for anyone who enjoys the fantasy/magic genre, it can get a bit dark at times and the "bad guy" is one of the best and well thought out in action and all around presence.
This is full of magical talent and the main character is the one who has no magical ability at all, this is just a fun novel to read, I will be joining soon.

Nadia_nao So happy this book got picked at last. It's been sitting in my TBR list for months. Looking forward to the reading and discussion.

I didn't know this - thanks for mentioning that. And I agree makes it an even better choice knowing that the concluding novel is right around the corner.

I can't get hold of an e-book in the UK, does it have a different title?

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments :(
Maybe a good question for Courtney Schafer on the Q&A.

message 16: by Michael (new) - added it

Michael (michaeljsullivan) @Helen - Courtney was originally published through Night Shade Books that went defunct and sold their ebook assets to Start Publishing. It may be that the contract was only for "North American" rights and therefore the UK rights aren't yet sold. I might be completely off base, but that is my guess.

Suzanne I got the book but haven't gotten very far yet because of midterms. I'm hoping to have it done by the end of the month though - the first chapter was an interesting set-up!

Garrett Daum | 7 comments one of the few books I've read this yr that the group decided to tackle. Honestly, the book was well-written. The only thing that irked me was how Dev sounded and felt like an old man, even though he is only a few yrs older than Kellan. Overall it was a great read and decided to dive into the 2nd book.

and I meant Kiran his actual name not Kellan lol

Jennifer (jennifer_crow) | 16 comments I've been looking forward to reading this one. I've got to clear some research books off my desk, and then I'll play catch-up with the rest of you.

John LeViness (jlawrence) Jumping in now!

Jennifer (jennifer_crow) | 16 comments I got sucked in last night, finally put it down around 1:30 a.m. at about the 100 page mark. I really like the mountaineering imagery--lots of vivid details that bring the story to life.

message 23: by Lara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lara | 84 comments I've finally started, after owning this for a while now. I'm glad we picked this book as I feel it is a solid fantasy. And it's a smooth read that is easy to get into.

I am distracted by the fact that our intrepid mage is so very unworldly and seems to have no idea what he'll do once he reaches his destination. Does he even have any money? That also is unclear.

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments Rats! November got away from me. This was/is next up in my reading queue. I may still read it and pop in with my thoughts.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Please do so, Jon.
