Hakushaku is the 5-year-old male tortoiseshell cat in residence at the Fujiwara home. He has a tough job trying to keep the two daughters, Shizuka and Yumeko, in line, and he often ends up suffering for his efforts. Shizuka is a high-school-age girl who has stopped going to school and has become a shut-in. Hakushaku tries to encourage her, but sometimes he has to stop her from doing embarrassing things, like showing her boobs on the internet. Yumeko is the younger sister, a middle school girl who has a huge crush on Shizuka. Hakushaku doesn't know how to handle this sister complex! A cat has a hard job in a household with such unusual girls!

Overall Rating: 4.5/ 10

This slice of life was an original piece narrated by Count Hakushaku, the Fujiwara household pet. Poor Hakushaku watches over the sisters, Yumeko and Shizuka, in their daily antics and struggles and often wonders how life can be so complicated. The setting is comical with one sister being oblivious to the many situations she stumbles into, while the other has a hard time going through the day without blushing, nosebleeds and a sister complex involving certain scenarios. All this with the poor Count trying to help one while not having a slight ideal how to handle the other but knows he still has to step in.

All in all, fun comic but this sibling complex is such an everyday occurrence in Japanese literature that I could have gone without it and still found Count Fujiwara's Suffering amusing and given it a higher note.

Do I recommend it:

Yes, it is a fun piece to read, from the standpoint of a morally upstanding cat!
