ᴜᴩᴅᴀᴛᴇ ᴏɴᴇ: ᴡʜᴀᴛ ʜᴀᴩᴩᴇɴꜱ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴩᴀᴄɪꜰɪᴄ, ꜱʜᴏᴜʟᴅ ꜱᴛᴀy ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴩᴀᴄɪꜰɪᴄ

For the last four years a team of highly experienced scientists and decorated military personnel have been working on a remote island in the South Pacific. Their mission - to develop and test a newly created super weapon. Known only as the S.E.A.R Project, this secretive operation has been funded by the shady individuals at Intersect Inc. who have plugged millions into the project in order to get it off the ground. Hidden amongst lush green forests and bounteous natural pools is a large military base which holds some of the most up to date biological weapons on the planet. Behind an impenetrable metal fence and a barrage of security measures lies a large compound; patrolled night and day by armed guards and protected by high voltage electrical wiring. Lead scientist Thomas Augustine has been working tirelessly on the project for over four years, suffering set back after set back until finally - they had a breakthrough.

But, unbeknownst to Thomas and the rest of the team, the labs have been leaking harmful toxins onto the island. Toxins that have caused mutations and changes in the genetic make-up of those on the island - toxins that can reanimate the dead…For the past few days a well known member of the research team has been MIA, seemingly vanished after complaining of fever and fatigue. Searches of the island have proved fruitless, he has not been found. The guard team are still yet to associate the picked clean animal carcasses with their missing comrade. Little do they know he succumbed to a tropical disease several days before, but his exposure to the toxin changed his DNA - and he came back, dead but walking, feasting on the flesh of the island animals. It won’t take long for the guards to realise what has happened, for someone to be bitten by their deceased colleague, for the fever and the sickness to kill them too.

But by then it will be too late, Thomas Augustine will have already flown home to Chicago and the infection will have already spread.

Thomas Augustine made his return to Chicago this week, spending his time with friends, family and giving a lecture at Loyola University. Unbeknownst to Thomas, he’s been carrying a deadly strain of a lethal, DNA manipulating virus with him. The kind that will bring back the recently dead. Everyone who Thomas has come into contact with in recent days is now carrying that same infection, and it is spreading fast. It doesn’t kill. No. The outcome of this virus is much worse and soon everyone in Chicago and the surrounding area will be affected. In some people it manifests itself as a cold, with flu-like symptoms, this of course will pass but once infected there’s no going back. Anyone who comes into contact with this virus will come back from the dead - a shell of their former self - a shuffling, undead being.

Calls have been put out in local new outlets to warn people about the flu-like illness that’s currently making it’s way through Chicago. People are advised to stay indoors if unwell and to seek medical advice if symptoms worsen. In a number of locations in Chicago, the recently deceased have been reanimated, but news of this is yet to reach the media. For now the zombie outbreak remains unknown and unheard of, but in the days to come it will travel quickly and more people will die and more people will come back.
