Sherry | 8261 comments Portland, Maine. Our founder, Allen Crocker, will be the host. It will be the third weekend of September, 2015, so mark your calendars.

message 2: by Carol (new)

Carol | 7657 comments Oh , September instead of October. I am trying to plan on it, seems like something with a higher priority gets in the way. Here's to another year, may we all make it a big convention reminiscence of the past.

We used to have it in September, but we changed it in New York, I think because of the price of rooms. That holds true with Portland, Maine, too, because October is peak leaf peeping (say THAT three times!) season.

Sue | 4492 comments Oh!!! Yippee! I missed this post. I believe I will be able to make this one and actually meet some of you folks. Since I'm a novice at this, what day of the week does it usually start on? I don't know whether I will be able to come for all of it and I will likely come with a friend who has said she will drive. Now to find out if that weekend will wok with her (one year in advance :) )

message 5: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments That's great, Sue. I was hoping you could come. In years past, we've started on Thursday night and gone home Sunday. But lately we've been starting on Friday night and leaving Monday or Tuesday. I guess it will depend on what Allen wants to do.

message 6: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments I'm already looking forward to it Sherry. Already thinking about hotels that might have tempurpedic mattresses!

I have to admit, that's not something that we take into account when we book a hotel.

No, I wouldn't think so. I think my brother has done it when he has traveled. I don't know how easy it is to find. A recliner would also do. I'll find something to work. I really want to meet everyone.

message 9: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8208 comments I'm planning to make it to this one too, Sue. It will be great to meet you!

message 10: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments This could be like a homecoming!

I would like to come, too. My work calendar starts filling up five years in advance, though, so the sooner I can find out the start and end days, the more likely I'll be able to make it. Thanks!

message 12: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments That's fantastic, Deborah. It will definitely be the third weekend in September.

message 13: by Ken (new)

Ken | 447 comments I hope to make a cameo on one of the two weekend days -- knowing me, probably when a "meet to eat" is planned.

message 14: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8208 comments This is getting exciting!

message 15: by Cateline (new)

Cateline What a great time of year for that area!

message 16: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 11076 comments Oh I hope we're chipper enough to come!

You'll find plenty of opportunity. We don't call ourselves the Constant Eaters for nothing.

Sue | 4492 comments This sounds like so much fun.

I certainly hope it's more than just a cameo appearance.

message 20: by Ken (new)

Ken | 447 comments Yes, more than a cameo. Just not a 3-4 day stay. A man's gotta work in school season....

message 21: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Well it looks like this 2015 convention in Portland is not happening. Maybe we can resume our conventions in 2016.

message 22: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments I wondered about this when nothing was happening. And I was actually going to be able to go. I'm sorry I won't be meeting everyone as I had planned.

message 23: by Sara (new)

Sara (seracat) | 2107 comments Definition of a bummer. Hope next year is better.

Yes, Sue, I was so looking forward to meeting you. If for some miraculous reason things change, I'll let you know.

message 25: by Carol (new)

Carol | 7657 comments That is too bad. Would it be the same place next year?

message 26: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Carol wrote: "That is too bad. Would it be the same place next year?"

No, it will need to be somewhere else. Unless one of you wants to host it there. The trouble with Portland, is that the time of year is peak leaf season, and it's impossible to get hotels at anywhere near a reasonable rate.

message 27: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments Oh well. It was a wonderful thought while it lasted. I don't know if I will ever be able to get to any other destination. Well, never say never, I guess.

message 28: by Carol (new)

Carol | 7657 comments Hey Sue, Boston is nice.

message 29: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments Indeed, Boston is wonderful with lots to do. Didn't CR come to Boston already though?

message 30: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Sue wrote: "Indeed, Boston is wonderful with lots to do. Didn't CR come to Boston already though?"

Yes, but that was so long ago it hardly counts. I would love to do Boston again, if someone will volunteer to host it.

message 31: by Carol (new)

Carol | 7657 comments Is September a high booking season?

message 32: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Carol wrote: "Is September a high booking season?"

I'm not really sure, but if you book early enough (at least 9 months ahead) there shouldn't be a problem. Boston is very expensive, as we found out years ago. Lynn and I always share a room, and that helps considerably. I suggest others do the same (unless they are bringing spouses, who might object!)

message 33: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments Boston is always busy. The college's are all back late August/early September. I don't know about specific things. There is the Head of the Charles registry.. in October (I think). Many college football games which bring people in sometimes, especially if something like Harvard/Yale is at home.

message 34: by Sue (new)

Sue | 4492 comments I'm afraid I can't offer hosting as I have no idea how much I will be able to do. If someone else is able to, perhaps I could help. This is when I wish I were physically more functional right now.

message 35: by Susan_T. (new)

Susan_T. | 197 comments Aw, sorry to hear this about Portland. Fall in New England is beautiful--but hard to find lodging, especially reasonably priced, due to leaf peeping.
