Yasmine | 1 comments As a child I used to love a book of my grandmother's, which I now only remember hazily. It had bizarre images which turned out to be of something other than what you initially think. I'm pretty sure there was something that turned into a pipe (the smoking kind), and maybe a walking stick that turned into a fish or a flamingo?

Online searches have turned up nothing, I'd estimate it to be 80's or earlier. It was in colour, I'm pretty sure, and I can't remember if there was text. Any ideas?

Yasmine, around what year did you first see/read this book?

Can you describe the plot or characters? Or was it a puzzle book?

Can you describe the illustrations - simple/detailed, realistic/cartoony/cute, painted watercolors/bold graphics, bright/dark/muted colors/black & white?

Do they remind you of another illustrator or picture book author?

A few guesses; there are popup books:

- The Museum of Unnatural History: A Pop-Up Book by Kees Moerbeek?

- The Magic Castle by Stella Farris

- Animals in Color Magic by Annette Tison - "Herbie and his dog find an old book of magic which describes an experiment to make strange enchanted animals with color magic."

- "Artful Animals" by Vic Duppa Whyte - here's one cover image on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Artful-Animals...

- Haunted House by Jan Pieńkowski)?
