Ok, several people have asked that we clarify the rules and habits of this group. So, here goes...

Please select the correct folder for your thread. Are you looking for a specific title? It goes into Unsolved.

Are you looking for suggestions for books of a specific type? It goes into Request for books in general.

NO AUTHOR SPAM. This will get you banned. And the threads deleted. Sorry, we are here to help people find forgotten "loves" and not to promote your newest opus.

Posting a request or query

1) Please do not "shout." Use capitals sparingly. No one likes to be screamed at.

2) Include a brief description of your book in your topic heading. Even if all you say is--YA romance, that is enough for those of us who actually read YA romances to know to check your thread. DO NOT PUT IN ANY VARIATION OF "help, what's the name of this book." Since that's what this group is about, almost all of the threads in the Unsolved folder belong in that category. Many of our members will not bother clicking your thread open if you put that into your description. They also tend to only check the threads that they think they have a chance of solving, hence my suggestion above with the YA-Romance title.

3) Put as much information as you can remember into the body of your post. The minimum you should put into the post is:
WHEN you read the book. This means the year (or decade) that you read it, not that you read it when you were in 5th grade, since we don't know how old you are. And I myself was in 5th grade back in the Stone Age (i.e. 1966) so my definition of 5th grade probably isn't YOURS.
What reading level it is aimed at--adult (meaning
anyone over the age of 18, not necessarily that
it is XXX rated), NA (a new category that
publishers have recently come up with--this is 18-
24 or so year olds), YA (15-18 or 19 year olds),
MG (12-15 or so), children's chapter (8-12ish)
and children's picture books.
What the story is about--or at least as much of
it as you remember. If you can remember character
names, include them. Ages of the MC and friends
if this is anything YA and below.
What the genre is. Coming of age, mystery, sci-fi
fantasy, horror etc.
What format is the book in--dead tree, audio or ebook (or something more exotic if you have it. I'm always looking for new ways to enjoy my books.)

This is one group where spoilers are not only requested, but almost required. Since many books have similar plot-lines, often it is the spoilers that get it identified. If you are still leery of posting them, there is a way to have them "hidden" in your post, requiring that someone actually click on the linkage in order to read it. Directions are in the Some HTML is OK link to the upper right of the posting box.

Please be polite. And remember--the biggest problem with the written word is--there are no facial or vocal clues to what the poster means. So someone might be joking, but because you can't "see" or "hear" them, you can't tell that, and so you get upset. Take a minute or three and then try to take it that way. The only exception to this rule is trolls. And, well, trolls are easy to ID. And usually get themselves banned. We have been very lucky and haven't had many of those show up.

If your book is not found right away do not give up because we won't. Just mark your thread's address somewhere (I suggest either saving in Favorites on your task bar or have a specific document set up with all of your threads addresses saved on it.) The reason for this is--you will get only ONE notice when someone posts to your threads. If you don't go and check the thread, you will never get another. And often those notices get shunted into SPAM folders by over-vigilant email programs. Plus, if your book is not found right away, you will want to come back periodically and bump it back to the top of the queue so that new members can see it and us "old timers" in the group are reminded of it. At present, there are about 3k or so queries in the Unsolved folder, and if you don't bump back to the top of the queue, your book will languish down in the basement and never get seen again. Also, if you the OP (original poster) don't show up periodically in your thread and make some kind of posting, we, the moderators will think you have lost interest and will move your thread down to Query Abandoned by Poster where it will wither and die a sad, slow death. (Can we all tell that I'm getting punch drunk here? But I promise, I am almost finished.)

The time period for bumping your post back to the top of the queue is 30 to 90 days. That way, we all have time to do more reading and to see more books, plus get a few new members or have old members check back in, and we don't get upset by someone spamming their thread to the top of the queue constantly.

When your book is found, if you don't know how to shelve it please just let us know that it's found and one of the moderators will shelve your book and then move your thread down to Solved. (And yes, we moderators do tend to be a bit OCD and have been known to be found by our families cackling happily and rubbing our hands with glee as we shelve that book.)

When your book is found--please put a message in the thread saying "SOLVED" and telling us what the correct title is, if there have been several suggested.

Also, when your book is found--please, please, please do NOT delete your request. We have some books that have had 8 or 10 different people looking for them. So your solved request could help someone else find the book too.
