Black Jack Robinson returns! He was very helpful to Frank...what did you make of that? Were you concerned for Jack when he helped Frank meet “Lou Lawson?” Did you think Lou might retaliate for bringing Frank to see him without first forewarning him?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments So glad to see Black Jack Robinson back in the series. I really liked him when he was introduced in a previous book.

I wasn't concerned about any retaliation against Jack after we found out exactly who Lou Lawson was. I was very surprised that that revelation though.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Again, my reaction to Black Jack's appearance was similar to Robin's. It surprises me that we have favorable responses to mobsters in the stories.

The Lou Lawson character was truly scary and I couldn't see how he managed to flip personalities the way he did.

I liked Black Jack Robinson, too, and was glad to see his return.

To your point, Charlene, there didn’t seem to be much difference between some of these criminals and the police, especially before Roosevelt’s reforms and after he left. Imagine them refusing to investigate Pritchard’s murder because they’d been paid to do so. And, members of society routinely get away from murder. It’s hard to demonize Jack considering.

I had begun to suspect Otto was Lou when they couldn’t find any of his tailor shops.

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I forgot that Malloy was trying to find Otto's tailor shops and couldn't find anything. I'm actually surprised he didn't have at least one as a front for his business. Wouldn't somebody eventually ask him where his shops were located?

Surprising that Ilsa Pritchard didn’t try and visit one.

That's a good point Jonetta.
