I will give a clue for those who want to have a go and guess
According to popular usage, a blue moon refers to the second full moon that occurs in any calendar month. On average, there will be 41 months that have two full moons in every century. By that calculation 'once in a blue moon' means once every two-and-a-half years.

This common expression is one of my favourites because it's such a nice, poetic image. It's usage has changed slightly over the years though. A long time ago, it meant 'never', but the modern meaning is 'very rarely'. There is also an alcoholic cocktail and an Elvis Presley song called 'Blue Moon', but they aren't directly connected to this expression.
