This is a recipe book interspersed with diary entries documenting the opening of Ella's deli/s. I had never heard of Ella or the shops before my sister was gifted this cookbook. I have no interest in the auto-biographical parts and this has turned into one of those cookbooks I have only made one thing out of.
The Lentil and Potato Stew from page 169 is absolutely stunning. I've made it multiple times and it's quickly become a classic in this house. The only adjustments I've made is not using baby potatoes (just a variety of big potatoes cut up and roasted) and make more potatoes than the recipe states because why wouldn't you. Also I've never bothered with the parsley topping.
Has anyone else got this recipe book? Any other recipes you would recommend I try?
There's quite a variety. Lots of them she mentions were popular at the deli but I think some are just personal favourites. The book is quick thick (almost 300 pages) and contains a lot of recipes, some more complicated than others.
