As I mention in my mountain topic, every year I plan to read only from my own stacks in an effort to get my owned TBR piles under control. And every year I get distracted by library books that I've always wanted to read or a book that a friend tells me is fantastic. So--I'm going to reward myself with a mountain climb and hope that I don't get too distracted from Mount Everest over in the Mount TBR Challenge...

Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the group

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 28 comments Hi again! Like everyone else, I use to get sucked into the library by new releases/friends suggestions or simply books on my TBR that do not own but found at the library/with a friend and I really want to read. In the 2019 challenge, I'm already done with my Mt. Crumpit climb, with 2 months left to go - it was an easy goal without hindering my actual Mt TBR goal. You don't mess with a winning team, so I'll go find the Grinch again in 2020!

I'll probably see you there...I don't seem to be able to stay away from the virtual TBR either.

Pamela | 52 comments Hello, I'm back again for another year of the Virtual Mountain challenge. I cannot stay away from library books, well I do work in one, and really the new books that come out always looks so interesting. Despite that I'm going to start at a lower mountain than last year, an attempt to focus on owned books. It's Mount Munch for me.

Bev, have to say that I love all the graphics for each level introduction. Marvelous!

Thanks! I added pix for my levels this year and I thought I would go ahead and add them to the level intros this year.

Margaret (grandmommyd) Like all of you, I get distracted by the library every time I step foot into it. I can't stay away from it. So I plan to keep my feet on the Mt. TBR trek in 2020, but add a Virtual climb as well. Then I can reward myself for all the books I read. :-)

message 9: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 3 comments I love my library, but since going back to work full time I found a similar love for Libby/Overdrive. I browse the virtual library everyday which has resulted in a 500+ wishlist. I want to use this challenge to reduce that number even as it probably will continue to accumulate with new additions.

Kim | 3 comments G-day Kim from Australia here *Waving
I have an enormous TBR on Goodreads and my reserve list at the library is full stacked, I am so up for this! :D
Since it's my first time, I'll be starting small and I'll also be knocking a few TBRs off the real shelf (she hopes) over on the Real life TBR thread.

message 13: by Karen (new)

Karen | 85 comments The Horse and His Boy is my joint favourite Narnia book, and one of my all-time favourite reads. That is what I am doing here :) So next year I have committed myself to reading 120 books across the two challenges, which I believe is manageable.

Good luck everyone with your challenges.

message 16: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) 2020 will be my first year doing the Virtual Mount TBR Challenge. 2019 was my first year doing the Mount TBR Challenge. I went through my 2019 Read list and would have gotten to Mount Mindolluin as I read 87 books that I did not own. So I think my goal will be 75 books to start.

KeenReader I'm in, climbing Mt. Rum Doodle. Is it a good sign that I've already checked whether my library has a copy of "The Ascent of Mount Rum Doodle"?

message 21: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (crushedbymytbr) Hi everyone! I’m aiming for Mount Munch.

I’m a big user of my library, by which I mean I get out loads of books, put them on a shelf, then take them back when I run out of renewals. I need something to keep me accountable and force me to actually read the books. I also plan to learn where the other branches of my library are because the website is absolutely rubbish for browsing.

Oh, and I’m going to use my Scribd account more.

message 22: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (evri) Hi, I'm climbing Mt. Rum Doodle. I work for the library service and frequently go to my childhood library so I've always got lots of books on my cards. I'm starting small but hope to climb up to the other levels throughout the year.

message 23: by Susan (new)

Susan | 19 comments Hi, I’m back for another year of virtual climbing. I do love my local library — all the more since I can check out ebooks via Libby/Overdrive and Hoopla. And there are some borrowed books around about that I’d like to read and return to their owners. So I’m starting with Mount Crumpit and will see you on the slopes

message 24: by Sharni (new)

Sharni (sharnibee) Hello! I decided to join the virtual challenge as well because I’m a power library user - and I often check out more books than I know I can read (I like keeping my options open)

No, but that's probably just as well. My list of "must reads" has nearly 150 books on it. If I borrowed one a week that's basically 3 years worth of reading already. Every time I harden my heart and look for books to delete off it I remember other "must reads" and it gets longer. Which is why I am here.

LOL--yes, it is dangerous trying to update TBR lists....

message 33: by Denise (new)

Denise (dunnica_harps) Hi! Back again to climb Rum Doodle for the second year. I read a lot of books on Overdrive and I have a bunch saved on Prime Reading, so I'm climbing here as well as in the physical realm for a goal of 24 over all. Made progress last year with my double climb, so I'm back for more. I'm a slow reader, last year I read 36 books in all (24 were TBR), so my goal for the year is to weed through the books I've found by reading articles and following others online and get to some of the titles that really call to me, both from my collection at home and lending libraries. By next year I hope to reduce my TBR by at least the same amount as I did last year.

message 34: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent This is awesome! I work at a library, and one of the most important aspects of my job is my reader's advisory skills. I can't recommend a book if I haven't read a book, so I try to read as many titles as I can possibly manage in order to be able to talk to our patrons about them.

I'm new to the group, but since I'm already at 20 books for the month of January, and I have a 3 book a week goal for 2020, I'm going to go for it and select Mt Seleya as my destination. I know it's doable with a bit of wiggle room - because as we all know, life has a funny way of getting in the way.

message 37: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 14 comments I am on my second year at Mount TBR, and I certainly have enough books in my TBR stack to keep me busy, but last year I signed up for Kindle Unlimited and I find myself ignoring those books because I feel I need to read my owned TBRs. So I thought I would mosey over here to motivate myself to also read the books I have borrowed under Kindle Unlimited and some I have put on a Kindle Unlimited wish list. I may be biting off more than I can chew, but I'll have fun trying to make it up both mountains!

message 39: by Laurie (new)

Laurie (mnkgrl) | 2 comments Thanks for this challenge! I have no self control in adding books to my TBR list here on Goodreads so I’m doing this to make myself read more of books I added in the past and not be as distracted by new books I hear about. Doing Mt. Crumpit as this is my first TBR challenge. Also I set another requirement for myself which is that the books I count have to have been on my TBR since 2017 or earlier.
