Thanks! :) I stole a lot of it from Jody when I was first starting out, then tweaked it last year to fill some gaps.
The Feast Your Eyes portion will be a cover collage, and I will track month-to-month in the part where January is now... at the end of each month, I'll copy it into it's own post then start fresh with a new month.

So I was like, oh, I'm going to focus on finishing my plan for the first part of my plan (the first third of prompts)... but then I ran out of characters wayyyy earlier than expected (so many options), so now I had to extend my planning posts to four comments instead of three. But now I'm halfway through my second set of prompts (instead of just finishing the one). And now I feel like I need to finish the second set as well.
And this is the story of how I spent an entire Sunday planning for 2020 reading and not getting any 2019 reading done.

Haha happy to help, Edie! I feel like my planning is really just me trying to prevent myself from forgetting a book I may want to read eventually... if I write it down here, I won't forget about it, right?? Plus, I'm a total mood reader, so it helps to have a variety to choose from when the prompt comes up.
Tracy, you too! Glad to see you making a plan and I hope the year goes well for you!
Tanvi, I like having a ton of options for each prompt since I’m such a mood reader!

I've pulled my first prompt of the year (to make sure I had a book to fill it before the library closed) and I pulled #40: A book with a place name in the title.
I have a lot of options, but I've decided to go with Miracle Creek, as it seems like an easy jumping point for New Years Day and has great reviews (wouldn't want to start off the year on a bad foot...).

Miracle Creek is done! And it was such a great way to start the new year!
I've pulled Week #11: A book originally published in a year that is a prime number as my next prompt of the year.
I was debating between My Cousin Rachel (1951) and We Were the Lucky Ones (2017), but ended up picking the Daphne du Maurier book because I didn't want to go with a 2017 read. So we will see how this goes!

I'm thinking of reading that one too, for my classic that I've always meant to read. I haven't really always meant to read it since I only heard of it in the past couple of years, but I really liked Rebecca so I might like this one too.
That's why I added it to my 40 Before 40 list.. Rebecca is one of my all time favorites, so I thought I'd pick My Cousin Rachel up and see if I liked it as much. It has good reviews and I read the first few pages and was hooked!
Update on My Cousin Rachel: I didn't hate it. It moved really quickly (even faster than Rebecca) and I thought the plot was unique and intriguing.
But. That. Narrator. I kind of hated Phillip, the way I hate all insufferable 25 year old boys lol. He was annoying and refused to see what was going on in front of him and just generally the worst.
That being said, I read and read and looked forward to reading, so it wasn't a bad read. You just have to be prepared to be annoyed at Phillip always lol.

I finished Fierce Kingdom SO QUICKLY. Man, that book moved. It covered #6: Transportation on the cover. Probably a bit of a stretch, considering the horses are on a carousel and that can't really take you anywhere, but I'm counting it and moving on.
Up next from the Jar of Random is #32: Connected to the 2020 Olympics, and I nearly kissed my jar when I pulled this one. My book club picked The Silence of the Girls for January, and since it's set in ancient Greece, I'm going to count it towards this prompt.
After that prompt will be #8: Two word title starting with The, and I'm hoping to get to The Animators to cover my LGBTQIA+ book for the month. I also have The Alienist, The Wonder, and The Leavers on my bookshelves, so lots of options for that one!
Really just loving this random prompt thing. It feels intentional like reading in order but without the pressure!

I’ve not read The Wonder yet so I’m not sure it would count as LGBTQIA+ for the subject matter, but it would for the author. It’s on my list to try to get to this year, so if you do choose to read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Oh, I didn’t even know that the author was LGBT+! That does help.. I loved Room so much, and I found a great copy of The Wonder at my local used bookstore so I want to get to it this year. I’m glad to have options since I’m such a mood reader!
Just finished The Silence of the Girls, which was a much quicker read than I was expecting and I enjoyed more than I was expecting, so great all around. That knocks off one of the prompts I was most dreading -- related to the summer Olympics. I was debating on whether to count this book for my LGBT+ requirement, since Achilles seemed to have a bit of a fling with his best friend, but I think it's too subtle and not enough of a center of the storyline for me to count it.
Now that I've finished my 4th ATY prompt, I may take a break from ATY for a minute because my Book of the Month club box just came in with The Sun Down Motel and Recursion. I've been looking forward to Sun Down Motel for ages... basically since I read and loved The Broken Girls! So I think I'll read that one next since I'm a little ahead on ATY.

In a mad dash that had me neglecting everything else in my life, I finished The Sun Down Motel. My heart is still racing, and I think I'm going to wait until tomorrow to rate it because right now it would be 5 perfect stars, but I know I'm not being rational.
It was just so, so good. The perfect amount of creepy and intriguing and heart-racing and character-driven and I just loved it.

That was my BotM selection in January! And the reason I picked it is because I also loved The Broken Girls. I haven't gotten to it yet (story of my reading life...sigh), but it is on the top of the stack.
I have a friend wanting to borrow it, which is pretty much the only reason I picked it up this month. I'm so bad about reading my BOTM picks in the month I get them lol. But this one was AMAZING and worth moving up the list if only to have people to gush about it with.
Just realized it's already February 4th and I forgot to post a January update (or add my last three reads to this plan). 2020 has not gotten off to a great start...

---------------------------------
I read some good books this month, most notably Know My Name, which may be my favorite nonfiction of the year... I'm not sure how anything will beat it.
I also managed to double my diversity goals this month, so that's pretty cool. When the Moon Was Ours even had a transgender character, which is not my typical LGBTQ+ reads. I thought that was great, and I'm glad Monkiecat suggested it for me in the Winter Challenge thread.
All in all, a pretty good start to my reading year. Less than I managed last year, but I have a tougher work schedule and I'm taking an online graduate class, so my reading time is much diminished.
---------------------------------
February is Black History Month, so I plan on having half of my books read be written by black authors. I have quite a few on my agenda, but I'm really looking forward to The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives, which I've heard great things about.
My goal is to read at least 8 books, with 4 of them going towards ATY. I already have my books planned for #37/38 prompts (The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls and The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics), so we will see what the jar holds for me with the other two prompts.

I just finished The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray, which also served as my first African American author of the month (I'm hoping to get at least 4 in), as well as my LGBTQ+ author for the month.
And I'm pairing it with The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics for the two binary opposite books.
I thought the book was a great look at mental health and the way our relationships can make or break us. I generally don't like books centered on family relationships and drama, but this one was really well done.

I just finished Homegoing, which was a reread for me. For some reason, I only gave the book 4 stars my first time around, but this time I read it, I took notes and took my time with the story, letting it unfold and looking for patterns, and whew. It totally blew me away. I raised the rating to 5 stars.
Just so brilliant.
Just so brilliant.

I’m adding Homegoing to my TBR for after the challenge. It looks like an interesting story.
I know that we are granted an extra day in February this year, but I'm going to go ahead and call my month early. I've been reading like a maniac for the Read-A-Thon, but I don't think I'll start and finish another book between today and tomorrow (not if I want to get any work done haha!), so I'll go ahead and post this now.
It was a pretty good reading month for me, with LOTS of books given 4 stars. I also had a goal of reading 50% authors of African descent (African, African American, etc.), and I met that goal on the nose. I'm glad I pushed myself, because I ended up reading books in a lot of different genres this month.

Oh, March. You sucked.
I can't even fully blame the craziness of the world, because it took me ten (unquarantined) days to read my first book of the month... and I ended up DNF'ing two books because I just couldn't get into anything. Then, when it was announced that school was closing on March 13th, I went into a frenzy of planning and grading and planning and basically couldn't even think about reading. It was really hard to lose myself in a book with so much going on in the real world.
But I did have some books I really enjoyed this month, even if I didn't meet any of my goals. I read our book club book (Never Let Me Go) in two days, and that covered my POC goal, but I just couldn't pick up anything else that wasn't simple and easy. Hopefully April will be a bit better...

Thoughts
- Ok Oona is just REALLY GOOD. Like... I cannot put this book down. It is striking the perfect balance between sentimental and funny and surprising, but also pretty light. A great read for right now in life.
- I'm surprised at how into Untamed I am. I picked it up pretty randomly, I've never even heard of Glennon Doyle, but her book is a good mix of self-help without the preachiness.
- Was planning on reading With the Fire on High for the GR award prompt, but I needed to switch things up after Oona and I was craving a mystery. Luckily my BOTM box came in, so I skipped the GR prompt for now and will complete the mystery one, then come back to GR award after.
- Definitely had too much Glennon Doyle yesterday.
- The Guest List is picking up, but I still don't want to pick it up lol
- Seems a bit like cheating to include Harry Potter in this month's count, because I've read it over the course of the last year, but it has to count somewhere, right?

I hope you enjoy With the Fire on High. I really liked that one this year. And how is the Glennon Doyle book? I was toying with reading it, but I feel like self help/inspirational stuff all sounds the same to me, so I always put it on the back burner. I have been watching her live feeds on Face book though. She has some really good ones, and its nice to listen to instead of all the politics and bad news.
I only read 4 books in March! So I feel your pain on that one... I'm doing better in April now that I've gotten into a quarantine routine lol.
I liked the Glennon Doyle book, but I also knew NOTHING about her going into the book. From other reviews I've read, it seems like it can be a bit repetitive from her interviews and stuff, so I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much if I had read her other stuff. But it was definitely uplifting and not super preachy (except for a bit in the middle). I liked her story though.

THOUGHTS
- I ended the Read-A-Thon with a good number of pages read and books completed, which I'm happy about. With the Fire On High is reading really quickly and easily, which I wasn't expecting, so I'll definitely get it in before the end of April.
- Ugh I finished With the Fire on High and I'm upset because I truly wanted that book to go on forever.
- The Heart's Invisible Furies is taking forever. I think I've made good progress, and SURPRISE I've only read 40 pages. Going to have to kick it in high gear if I don't want to spend the whole month of May reading this one.

That's why I did it, Kathy! I find that if I hold myself accountable to tracking my pages every day, I'm going to read at least a little bit so that I don't have to put zero lol. It will (hopefully) also keep me from going too long without finishing a book because I'd hate to have my Completed Books blank for the week.

Whew. Thank goodness for April.
It's always hit or miss with April... the spring weather, tax season ending, festivals and fun weekends. However, since this April had very few of those things, I took full advantage of the spring weather by sitting outside and reading every afternoon. I also decided to start running, which fed my audiobook appetite. All in all, I'm pretty happy with everything I read this month... lots of 5 star and 4.5 star books!
