Also, Plot may be slightly off
The book is about a young female(i think) hacker and she stumbles upon or creates a virus that can do great harm.

The hacker is captured by the bad guys and another person sets off to find them.

SPOILER/Ending>>>> The hacker manages to record the captors plan via a watch camera and then blasts it to everyone's email and is saved.

It seemed to be set in California/eastern coast.

The book cover was orangeish and I seem to remember it having binary code is the background.

I read this book in around the year 2007-2008 and at the time it was an older book. The technology terms in the book were not updated to the 2008 era.

Daniel O'Mahony | 5 comments Hi,
I'm looking for a book that is kind of similar in that there's a hacker kidnapped. My memory of the cover was that it was gold but maybe orange. There are a few key differences though.

Take a look at this and let me know if it rings any bells

Mitch, is this book for adults or teens?

How is the hacker? Who's their employer - or is s/he a high school/college student?

I added some details to the header/topic title. You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Mitch Harrison | 5 comments Kri- it’s probably for young adults. I read it in my high school library.

The hacker as I recall is a kinda a surfer bum or live near/with some. No real job and she seemed to be youngish. 18-30’s.

A guess - The Cassandra Virus by K.V. Johansen?

Search using WorldCat.org -

Mitch Harrison | 5 comments No I don’t think that is it unfortunately. The hacker gets kidnapped and then struggles to get free. The thing I remember is the hacker sending out a worldwide email to everyone to preserve the evidence as videos can be tampered with. But if there are literally thousands of the same copy. Well that helps out in the courts
