Ann (izesicle) | 793 comments 2020 aim: 8 unique countries minimum, at least 1 per region, country not previously "visited" in the last 2 years

**Around the World in 80 Books**

Yearly Frequent Flier goal [shelf]:
1 book in 8 countries within the following 8 regions: North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania/Australia
Even though you still have to start at your country of origin, you are free to travel at random around the globe with no specific route or itinerary.

You will make all updates under your own thread. Please state the region, the country, the book title, and the author during each new post.

Nike | 117 comments Hi! I am new to this so I want to make clear that I have understood all the rules.
When you say that one shall start at "your country of origin" you simply mean that - if I take myself as an example - that I should start with a swedish book since I'm swedish? And does that mean that I'm "done with Europe " after reading that?
Another question has to do with all the red markings in tbe list of countries above. Is one obliged to read books from those countries or is it the contrary - shall I not read books from those countries?
Thank you and best regards from Nike in Sweden.

Ann (izesicle) | 793 comments Hello Nike. Sorry, I just saw this.
There are many different versions of this challenge - you can look at the posts by the moderator. In this case, I chose to visit one country per region only.

If you would like to set the same rules for yourself, then yes, start with a book set in Sweden and yes, you can be done with Europe after that.
The list of countries with the marks is simply my list of countries I've visited by reading. Since the rule I've set is to visit a new country, then I will not read books set in the countries I have marked.
You can start and mark your own list of countries. The moderator has posted an editable map as well, if you prefer that.
Glad to see your interest in reading around the world. This challenge has helped me realize that I needed to be more diverse in my reading.
All the best, Nike.

Nike | 117 comments Thank you and I'm sorry! I mistook you for one of the moderators and your list as a competition for all of us in the group. I still haven't figured out correctly how to find my way round in the groups. If you want I would be so grateful if you would link me to the group challenge and/or the map. Best regards, Nike
