Sword & Sorcery: "An earthier sort of fantasy" discussion

As part of the Kickstarter for Heroic Fantasy Quartley #3, Darrell Schweitzer penned a nice intro about the S&S genre definition.

Does it really need "swords", for instance.

The introduction was made available as an update to backers, but I think it viewable to the public.

Well, I would say that if the technology level varies much from the sort where we would expect swords -- it's probably not sword & sorcery.

He didn’t say anything new in the introduction, but also didn’t say anything I disagree with
