Is this really a mystery novel? It didn't feel like it. The big mystery was never a secret. And the actual mystery wasn't that interesting or even exciting. There wasn't a lot to love in this story, but it wasn't all bad.
The good: the characters were complex. They were also realistic. And by that I mean they were very annoying people, like many people are in real life. This wasn't a bad thing though. I enjoy reading about those characters, although I drew the line with Elsa. That was an exaggeration from the author. Anyway, I also liked the writing style. It flowed nicely. I liked the overall message as well.
The bad: the dialogue. I know it's an old story so the characters speak differently but it made me roll my eyes. I didn't like the ending. It was so silly. Ray could have been a really great character, but he ruined it with his love confession. Julie and Ray were the most decent characters but they failed me for being so cheesy my gosh. I didn't like the mystery like I said before.
So I guess it was an okay story. I enjoyed myself half of the time. It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat, but it kept me reading, which is always a good thing.
