E.R. Joy (bethielovesbooks) i did this year and upped it so by the end of the year will be 150 books. Not sure about 2020....My shift @work is changing. I wanted to challenge myself this year becauae I am not always disciplined. I would like to listen to 2 seriers in 2020 and just enjoy the fun of reading. :) :) :)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I do the big GR challenge just to have that record.
I sometimes do group challenges but I have trouble staying motivated with them. But mostly I just read whatever I can, whenever I can, and write reviews of *everything*, and be happy.

message 4: by Bookworm (new)

Bookworm (catsy2008) not according to a genre or diversity. just a set # and I did better than I thought. maybe I can read 100 books a year.

message 5: by W (new)

W Yes,I too would have trouble staying motivated for a reading challenge. It's the quality that counts, not the quantity.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 485 comments I have inputted a number, but that's not my focus. My goal is to diversify what I read. My 2020 goals include reading around 20% nonfiction, 20% botm that are "classics," 20% botm, 40% whatever fancy strikes.

Phrodrick slowed his growing backlog | 348 comments This may be a Challenge to any and all who care to join
April of 2020 is the 120 anniversary of The Wizard of OZ. It is the first of 14 book in the series.

I am now about 25 pages into the first. I have not yet read any so this qualifies as an Everyone has Read this but Me Kinda challenge
The goal, read all 14 by April 2020.

If possible I want only original illustrated editions, but I can only hope that this reproduction includes all titles.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Illustrated First Edition): 100th Anniversary OZ Collection
OTOH I saw there is an annotated edition, I may switch to that because I love annotations and rarely see what looks like a good on.

Anyone else interested?

I'd gladly read the first, the annotated version if I could find it in one of my libraries. I doubt I'd like to continue, though.

Nora Briggs (abriggman) | 433 comments Hi everyone, I set a personal goal for my self every year. I completed the pop sugar challenge this year and I found it fun. The Wizard of Oz Challenge sounds cool.

message 10: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Scott | 2 comments Hey y’all! New to the group. I just started reading again so my year goal is 15 although I hope to read double that. I’m not a fast reader.

Luiz Fernando | 76 comments This year I have set a personal goal of 25 books, but now it turns out that I already read 35 books. I'm sure that's because this year I've been keen on A Series of Unfortunate Events, which are mostly short books. I'm not sure what goal I will set for 2020. My readings depend a lot on the mood I am.

message 12: by Anneke (new)

Anneke (herzballon) My goal this year was 24 books, but I underestimated myself. Have already read 64 and the year is not over yet. Of course I will take the goodreads challenge again and I will participate in some theme challenges next year. There are so many great challenges here on goodreads. I would like to participate in all the creative ideas.

I've never read the book, but this sounds like something I would be interested in!

I did the same this year! My original goal was 40 books, I recently just passed 80 books. For 2020, I upped my overall goal to 100+...

I like doing the Buddy Reads and TBR Twins, they tend to keep me the most motivated to stay on track. I'm going to try to be more organized with my goals this year though, and keep track of them better... maybe a book journal?

message 15: by Cheryl (last edited Dec 02, 2019 10:43AM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Is there a TBR Twins in this group?

Could you talk more about it please; it sounds interesting.

nm, I found it over in a challenge-specific group: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

It really does look excellent.

message 16: by Zeljka (new)

Zeljka | 498 comments I like PIFM challenge even more than TBR twins- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Pick It For Me is definitely a good help to get rid of some from Mt TBR. But TBR Twins incorporates a mini-buddy read, which imo is a plus.

message 18: by Lizandra (new)

Lizandra Hey guys!! How do you manage to get 150 books read in a year😱🤯 mine this year was 25. Next year I wanna aim for 40-50 maybe.

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) No tv.

When having trouble sleeping, pick up the book again.

Carry a book with you for queues, downtimes.

Even better, retire or become an empty nester and have no other hobbies. Except discussions on goodreads. ;)

message 20: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenthequeen) I set up the reading challenge that goodreads suggested back in March and set my goal for 20 books. I proceeded to surpass the goal and read 34 (as of now). I like setting goals because there’s so many good stories to read and I like to see my literary journey through the year.

I will try to keep track with a book journal and this post in another goodreads group I´m part of.

message 22: by Loretta (new)

Loretta Lee I usually set mine for one book a week. As of now, I'm reading my 62nd and final book of the year!

message 23: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I set a goal of 50 books. I have been reading less in the last couple of years and hope I can reach this number.

message 24: by Paddy (new)

Paddy Gillespie | 48 comments This is my 5th year doing the GR challenge. Ive done 17, 20, 20, 20. This year I set my goal at 50. Instead of just trying to read 50 books, without any strategy, I’m aiming to read between 50-100 pages every day. I’ve also set my tbr for 2020 to include every book this group has read, excluding ones I’ve already done. I’ll also be trying to keep up each month with the BOTM. Only 12 days in, but it’s going well so far. Currently reading Dune. Long book, but once I’m done I’ll have at least read about 1/4 of the pages I managed last year

message 25: by Liz (new)

Liz B (lizboc) Last year I set my goal to 75 but read 58. This year I set my goal to 60 and am on book number 4. =)

message 27: by Dana (new)

Dana (danaelaine) My goal is 30, in years past I have read between 40-50 but this year I moving so I'm not sure between all the home remodels and being closer to family if I will get as much reading in this year.

My goal is 200 as well! I have 5 so far because school got in the way. lol!

message 29: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) There was a time that my goal was 100 books every year. But now with the Addition of our twin grandchildren, my reading has slowed down. This year I hope to read 50 books. I am also involved with several challenges from different book groups from Goodreads.

Jaclyn~she lives! catching up on reviews~ (jackyrin) | 83 comments I'm trying to read 1 Stephen King book per month, as I really enjoy his writing and it's fun to see how one author's work changes from year to year, story to story etc.

I'm also reading one book for each of the 50 states, and I've made a loong list with potential choices. This is part of a larger goal of mine to read more widely, and force me to read things outside of my comfort zone. Once I've finished the 50 states I'd like to move on to other countries, but that'll have to wait till next year.
I set my GR goal at 75 books this year, just as a way to chronicle how much I read.

Lizandra wrote: "Hey guys!! How do you manage to get 150 books read in a year😱🤯 mine this year was 25. Next year I wanna aim for 40-50 maybe."

Late to the conversation but I'll chime in on this-it's really going to vary on the person-their schedule, their reading habits and then what kind of books they're reading. Someone who works full time and then comes home to a house full of kids, is probably going to be reading differently than say a retired person who only has fur babies at home yet, lol. I've also seen people with crazy totals, who are counting children's books in their counts. Which is totally fine, but compare that with someone who reads larger, more complicated books and there will most likely be a difference in reading speed.

My personal best is 317 books read in one year. It was the year my youngest went to kindergarten. I dropped the kids off to school at 8:30am and had the house to myself until I picked them up at 3:50. I literally spent hours a day reading. I also read 'quick read' types of books-300 or less page contemporary romance, urban fantasy and PNR, which tend to be fast reads etc.

Then for a few years I cut way back and only read a handful a year, as my schedule changed/kids started doing their schooling at home etc. Last fall I started reading again, and I'll probably hit over 100 books this year, but I still read a lot of 'fluff' and that definitely helps, lol.

Heather | 0 comments This is my 2nd year doing Goodreads Reading Challenge. Right now my goal is 30, but if I hit it early I tend to increase my number by 5 if I can

Phrodrick slowed his growing backlog | 348 comments Not as such.
I prefer buddy reads to help me take on books I might not finish w/o back up.
I have been working to reduce my owned but not yet read ratio to newly bought and first to get read. So the goal is to have fewer not yet read in my stacks

J. Michael | 12 comments It's not so much a challenge but I've been trying to get into more reading recently. A book that definitely set me on the path to loving books is Mission 3-R by J. Michael. It's about how a treasonous General Ben Jackson steals a top secret trillion dollar time machine and leads a group of rogue African-American soldiers back in time 400 years, to prepare his African ancestors for when the first colonists set foot on the dark continent, and prevent the slave trade from taking place. The real kick to this story is all the deceit and conspiracies he uncovers on his journey. A friend recommended this book and I couldn't put it down once I started. You should definitely check it out on Amazon

Kirsten (kmcripn) I do have a few challenges for fun. I use challenges mainly to diversify my reading and I don't force myself to finish I just see how far I can go.

My challenges can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Jan Z (jrgreads) | 397 comments To read a book set in each state over the course of a year. Added D C. 50 books is easy for me. But your book club is reading this, and you want to read that. It took me about 2 years. Iowa was my last state. Are there any good books in Iowa? Looked at best books set in Iowa on Goodreads. Some I had already read. Some I hated. I was not going to count a book that was only 10% Iowa, either. Or reread a book. Well I found 1 I was not particularly enjoying but I decided to finish it come hell or high water so I could complete the challenge. I was pretty far, maybe 200 in pages in, and one sister blamed the other sister for being abused by her husband. Crappy husband abuses your sister and you blame your sister! Had to quit and find a new book. Found a dull book about growing up in the depression. It was set in Iowa, and I finished and got my 51 books in.
