Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments Holy smokes! It's the middle of November, and we're starting the preparation for the December challenge!

It's been ages since we've had a challenge that involves a buddy. I think it's time, don't you? This month, Madame Tutti Fruiti will gaze into her crystal ball to reveal who will be partners. But first things first. The ball is too cloudy from disuse and she needs a list of names of who is going to do the December challenge. If it was clear, she'd be able to divine the partners without the list. But alas, such is the way of divination. One day you've got it, and the next.... what was I going to say?

Please sign up below your intent to participate. Madame Tutti Fruiti will announce the pairs on November 23th, so hurry!

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I just had a thought. Go through the YLTO Bookshelf and pick a book. When you sign up, sign up with that book.

message 3: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 16, 2019 07:23AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I'm signing up, and the book I choose is The True Story of Hansel and Gretel.

That was the book they were reading when I joined this group, and the reason I joined! Funny thing is, I've never read it!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Nice!! I always like buddy challenges.

I'm signing up and my book is Mudbound. It was the first group read I ever participated in, quite soon after joining the group. Also, I think it's the first book I rated 5 stars.

Kristie | 19133 comments I like buddy challenges as well!

I'm in and I'll choose....News of the World

Katrisa | 4460 comments I'm in and I choose The Hunger Games because I just set myself a challenge to read the BBC's list of 100 Novels that shaped our world and that book is on the list and I haven't read it

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm signing up with The Miniaturist as I loved it and would like to read it again.

message 13: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Just putting it out there - keep in mind that we are being assigned a partner, so don't assume that you are choosing a book to read. That could be it, but might not be. I'm sure Janice will let us all know how this plays into her challenge when Madame Tutti Fruiti assigns us to partners.

message 14: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I’m betting that is what our partner ends up reading and we get theirs to read.

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments I agree with the partners reading each other’s book. Or genre just in case we already read it

message 17: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 16, 2019 02:12PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments Hey! This is YLTO! When is anything ever straight forward? The fact that Madam Tutti Fruiti is at the helm should be an indicator. Don't forget, her crystal ball is cloudy. Anything could happen.

message 18: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Nov 16, 2019 02:36PM) (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments lol, Janice! That's what I was thinking. You just never know...

I originally was wondering if it could be a buddy read somehow?? We at least know that Janice came up with something good, whatever it is.

message 19: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Doesn’t she always come up with something good?

message 20: by Dominique (new)

Dominique | 1126 comments Had a feeling it wasn't going to be a normal buddy read

message 21: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments No, Dom, because it would be unlikely that the books would all match up. I was thinking a buddy read with a twist, but who knows. I’m sure it’s something different and Janice was creative. That Tutti Fruiti lady is is tricky. Can’t wait to see the challenge they come up with.

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments Signing up. I choose Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Good to hear. Of the ones that I have not read, it is the second highest rated book on the list. AND the synopsis sounded interesting.

It's incredible what the author does with the text of the book!

Sandra wrote: "It was. I liked it too."

I'm glad. I think the story deserves a lot more recognition than it gets.

You're in for a treat, Cherie!

message 45: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I wouldn't be making the assumption that you are going to read the book you've chosen. Have you read the comments in the thread?

message 46: by Cherie (last edited Nov 17, 2019 06:28PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yes, Janice. I read the comments in the thread. I am not assuming to get to read it. :o) I just picked it because it was one I had not read yet. There are too many choices on the list to pick only one. Ella just happened to be at the top of my "not read list". I just got Brooklyn from my library for my yearly challenge, or I might have chosen it.

message 47: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 17, 2019 06:34PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments Ah! Thanks for clarifying, Cherie. Had me worried that you'd be disappointed perhaps if you didn't get to read it for the challenge.

I am looking forward to the buddy reveal and the updated criteria for the monthly challenge. I have enjoyed the ones you have come up with in the past.
