Lily (joy1) | 749 comments A thread for 2015 was never used, so I am simply updating it for 2016 use.

Lily (joy1) | 749 comments From C's December meeting notes:

The book selection for January is The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure.

We discussed possible book choices for 2016. It was suggested that we read something by Gabriel Garcia Marquez ... either Love in the Time of Cholera or One Hundred Years of Solitude. Several individuals have already read one or both of these, but according to E's records we have never read & discussed them as a group.

Two classics were suggested: Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. (The latter is a 19th century novel inspired by The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, a mystery which our group read several years ago.) The Braddon novel is currently available on Kindle for just 99 cents--a real bargain!

D highly recommends A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry and the same author's Family Matters.

Another book that was considered is The Memory of Love. The author is the Neustadt nominee Aminatta Forna (published in 2011).

Six other women were Neustadt nominees in 2016:

Can Xue, China
Caryl Churchill, England
Carolyn Forché, United States
Ann-Marie MacDonald, Canada
Guadalupe Nettel, Mexico
Dubravka Ugrešić, Croatia/The Netherlands

Dubravka Ugresic was the winner.
