Good start to this challenge! Some thoughts on my reads from the first six weeks of the year (I seem to be steadily increasing my ratings as I go along.....)

Rosa candida: lovely and saccharine, a very quick comfort read ***
The Mussel Feast: funny political satire, immensely enjoyable, will look for more by this author ****
Celestial Bodies: highly skillful weaving of narratives by several women in related families over a century, the translation is especially stunning and it's a joy to still have some of the Arabic in the text. ****
Iza's Ballad: a narrow focus on a handful of characters, multiple POVs and mundane events, and yet encompassing large-scale social changes and enduring questions of humanity and relationships. Haunting. *****
