SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments I am going to try again for the "Meowing - Read 21-30 cat mysteries" level.

I have read 94 total books in 2019, so far. There is no reason that I cannot succeed in the Meowing level.

Just means I might have to add a few new series to my "wish list".

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments Okay - book #1 for 2020 was:

"The Cat Who Tailed a Thief" by Lilian Jackson Braun

This is book #19 out of 29 in the series. I have downloaded several of these books from the library on my Overdrive app so I can jump from one to the next pretty quickly. Had 5 hours in the car since it was barn Saturday so I was able to finish this one and start book #20 right away.

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments Book #2: “The Cat Who Sang for the Birds” by Lilian Jackson Braun (#20 in the series)

I really do enjoy listening to these books. The narrator makes cute sounds for Koko and YumYum. This one wasn't too hard to follow as the # of new characters wasn't as many as previous books.

Anxiously awaiting the release of new books from Miranda James (Cat in the Stacks) on 1/21/20 and Sofie Ryan (Second Chance Cat Mystery) on 1/28/20. Rita Mae Brown (Mrs. Murphy) has a new book coming out 5/19/20.

In the meantime, I'm listening to The Cat Who book #21. :)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #3) "The Cat Who Saw Stars" by Lilian Jackson Braun. This is #21 in the series. Working my way through these easy listening stories.

((It's college basketball season and I find myself too busy watching that when I should be reading the cat mystery book I have at home ("Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter"). Slowly but surely, I will get it done.))

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #4) "The Cat Who Robbed a Bank" by Lilian Jackson Braun. This is #22 in her series. As you can tell, they are quick listens. I use Overdrive to borrow the audiobooks from the library so as soon as I finish one, I can move right on to the next.

I gave this one 3 stars. I got lost during the story several times. It sort of left me wanting at the end.

message 7: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #5) “The Cat Who Smelled a Rat” by Lilian Jackson Braun.

This one is #23 in the series. Not too many left to finish. I'm taking a bit of a break though as there are 2 new cozy cat mystery books due to be published on the 21st and 28th of this month! Yay!

message 8: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #6) I am hoping that this one will count. "Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter" by Blaize Clement. It is book #1 in the Dixie Hemingway Mystery series.

Dixie is a pet-sitter who used to be a sheriff's deputy. She has a dog who helps thwart a violent attack and a cat who attacks a perp at the end but the animals are not involved in the books like those in most of the cozy cat mysteries I've read. ((It has a cat on the cover!)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #7) “Careless Whiskers” by Miranda James

I really do love these books. This one had a REALLY good ending!

This one was book #12 in the "Cat in the Stacks" series.

message 10: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #8) “Claw Enforcement” by Sofie Ryan

This was book #7 in her Second Chance Cat Mystery series. My mother and I listened to this book while traveling to/from my Uncle's house in Richmond, KY this past weekend. We love to listen to cozy cat mysteries while we travel but she's gotten behind in a lot of these series that SHE got me hooked on. LOL

I've got 2 more "The Cat Who"/Lilian Jackson Braun books in my car to listen to (#24 and #25 out of 29).

Then the next installment (book #29) in the "Mrs. Murphy"/Rita Mae Brown series comes out in May.

The 12th book in Sofie Kelly's "Magical Cats Mystery" series comes out in September!

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #9) "The Cat Who Went Up the Creek" by Lilian Jackson Braun

This is #24 in her series. I'm getting a lot closer to the end. I had a hard time stayed tuned into listening to this book. I got lost with all the different characters since they weren't all regulars to the series. I found myself rewinding quite a bit.

Up next, #25 in the series. ((I've got a bunch of other hard copy books from the library at my house right now so I am only listening to my cozy cat mysteries right now.))

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #10) “The Cat Who Brought Down the House” by Lilian Jackson Braun

I honestly have to say that I am glad that there aren't too many books left in this series. I am actually getting quite bored with them. I think I have 4 more left after this.

Will need to find another cat mystery series that I can listen to as I have a huge stack of hard copy books to read already!

message 13: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #11) "The Cat Who Talked Turkey"
and
#12) "The Cat Who Went Bananas" both by Lilian Jackson Braun

I've got 2 more books left in this series and I think I am getting bored with this series. I found myself NOT listening to about the last half of the last disc on the most recent one.

I am taking a break from this series for awhile. I missed requesting the last 2 books on CD so I picked up a couple biographies that just happened to be at my local library instead. ((Leonard Nimoy & Fred Rogers))

message 14: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #13) "The Cat Who Dropped a Bombshell" by Lilian Jackson Braun.

I am finally down to the last book in this series. Yay!

This was actually book #34 for the year! Need to pick back up on reading my Cat Mystery books to meet my goal for this year.

message 15: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #14) "The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers" by Lillian Jackson Braun.

I am FINALLY done with this series. It lacked energy at the end, that is for sure. I've read that many of her readers weren't too impressed by this book and swear that she didn't actually write it. I would definitely believe that.

I've been adding some of the other series from readers in this group to my "Want To Read" list so now I need to pick one to try next to finish out the year. :)

message 16: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #15) "Furmidable Foes" by Rita Mae Brown - This is the most recent book in the Mrs. Murphy series. I can honestly say that there are way too many characters in her books that combine the current and Revolutionary War stories. I listened to a lot of this one while I was working so I wasn't paying attention like I should have.

#16) "Cat on the Edge" by Shirley Rousseau Murphy - This is #1 in the Joe Grey series. Mom and I listened to this one while travelling to and from my Uncle's house in Kentucky. I really did like it. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the rest of this series.

I have actually finished 59 books since 1/1/2020. Trying to get back to finishing my cat mystery personal challenge though.

message 17: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #17) "Pussyfoot" by Carole Douglas Nelson. This is book #2 in the Midnight Louis series. So far it's such a cute little series. Looking forward to seeing what Miss Temple Barr and Midnight Louie get themselves into.

I'm getting close to my Meowing goal for this group. I've finished 65 total books for the year, so far.

message 18: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #18) "Cat Me If You Can" by Miranda James. This is the newest book in the "Cat in the Stacks" series. Diesel might not play a huge part in solving the crimes but he does help. :)

Now I just need to wait for Sofie Kelly's newest one ("A Case of Cat and Mouse" from the Magical Cats series) to arrive from the library. I think I am #10 in line for it. :)

message 19: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #19) "Cat Under Fire" by Shirley Rousseau Murphy.

This is book #2 in the Joe Grey series. I listened to this one and have really enjoyed the series thus far. My mom has been listening to them as well and she has listened up through book #5. Looking forward to completing this series.

Check out my latest review about Black Cat and the Secret in Dewey's Diary. A cozy cat mystery you'll really enjoy and just $3.99 at Amazon!! A dual tale, narrated by BLACK CAT while at home and a tale of his mistress seeking a treasure in lost gold coins in Austria. Yowza!!

Barbara | 110 comments I love the Joe Grey series. I read it before and now am doing a reread. I am up to book four.

Barbara | 110 comments Are these people like Mollie writers trying to hawk their wears and get people to buy their books? How rude.

I'm not trying to "hawk" anything. I am both a cozy cat writer and avid reader. I have announced my books here before and been welcomed. If you don't like to hear about new books that you might like, then I apologize. Can I get a moderator to weigh in, please?

If you are recommending or talking about books you have read then I don't think that is bad but if you are just using threads to do an advertisement for your own books it seems to me and this is just my opinion a little rude because again in my opinion I am here for community and friendship and it doesn't seem friendly if someone would post on my thread, which this is not my thread, just to promote their book. Its like they have an underlying motivation for being nice.

message 25: by Mollie (new)

Mollie Hunt Then delete it. There is a fine line between an announcement and a promotion. I shared my new book because this group has been interested in the past. It's not my intention to offend, let alone be rude.

message 26: by SarahG (new)

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments I do have to admit that I would prefer not to have books advertised on my personal thread but rather maybe in a general group thread would be more appropriate.

With that said, I have added books by authors in this group in my WTR list. Unfortunately, I prefer to borrow books available thru the library first. I don’t have the extra to buy them all the time.

We would love to hear about your books. Just do so in your own thread. To make things clear this thread is SaraG's thread about her progress in the Purrfect Readathon and how many books she's read and what books she's read. Its not a general thread or a place to promote work. Otherwise, telling us about your book is great just start your own thread. I am sure we'd love to know about it.

Mollie Hunt I'm sorry.

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #20) “A Case of Cat and Mouse” by Sofie Kelly. This is book #12 in the Magical Cats series.

I usually listen to these books but I wrote to the author and the audiobook isn’t due out until next month due to COVID. Boooooooo! The book was still just as good. I love Owen and Hercules!!!!!

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #21) “Cat Raise the Dead” by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. Number 3 in the Joe Grey series.

Still in love with this series and trying seriously to catch up to my Mom. She listens way more than I do. Ohhhhh to be retired!!! Working from home limits my listening time to 4 hours (Saturday only).

😔😔😔

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments We are back home after our FLORIDA vacation. Mom and I listened to 3 audiobooks between the drive down and the drive back home. All 3 were cozy cat mysteries that neither of us had ever read before.

#22) "Purrs and Peril" by Jinty James
This is book #1 in the Norwegian Forest Cafe series. First off, this was a 4 hour audiobook which is by far the shortest mystery book I've ever listened to. It seemed to us that it felt like a whole series of chapters were missing. I am actually surprised that there are 7 more books in this series. Not sure if I want to read the rest if they are anything like the first one. Didn't like the narrator so might have to read #2 and see if it's any better.

#23) "The Time for Murder is Meow" by T.C. LoTempio
This is listed as #1 in the Purr N' Bark Pet Shop Mystery series but there weren't any other published or upcoming books listed on Goodreads. The narrator for this audiobook was HORRIBLE, especially for the male characters. It was a good story if you could get past the voice.

#24) "A Familiar Tail" by Delia James
This is book #1 in the Witch's Cat Mystery series. I loved this book the most of the 3 that we finished on this vacation. The narrator was a joy to listen to and I did like the storyline the best. The cat played a very major role in this story and I love that more than one that is here and there.

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments #25) "Cat in the Dark" by Shirley Rousseau Murphy

This is book #4 in the Joe Grey series. Wasn't too fond of another cat like Joe but it was a pretty decent story.
