Book Club for Introverts discussion

Let's discuss! To avoid spoilers, please only discuss Part I, 1-4

I really like the introduction of the “characters.” It makes this feel so much more personable and I know further into the book that this will make it that much more tragic.

Notes:
- The granite used to build the US Capitol is so radioactive that the building would fail federal safety codes regulating nuclear power plants.
- Brazil nuts (hate them) are the world’s most radioactive food
- The explanation of alpha/beta particles and gamma rays were really helpful and interesting.
- More than 80 years later, Marie Curie’s lab notes are still locked in a lead box because they are so radioactive.
- The cost cutting while building a nuclear power plant was mind-boggling.
- The reporting of all accidents covered up and kept as state secrets was shocking. And to think that the only public report in existence at the time was Three Mile Island - how much could have been learned from other accidents?

Has anyone else watched the HBO series? It was tough to watch but pairs well with this book. I can picture a lot of these people.
