Nominations for our January Non-King book go here. Please only nominate one book.. The King book has already been chosen so don't list a King book. Check the bookshelf to see if we've already read the book as a group. Thanks

Kandice | 4387 comments Since we've read American Gods, I'd like to nominate Anansi Boys. One of the few times a sequel outshines it's brilliant predecessor.

message 4: by Jeanna (new)

Jeanna (jeannajohnson) King was singing the praises of “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett a few weeks ago.

message 5: by David (new)

David Ruggerio | 1 comments I’d like to nominate my own book; A Wistful Tale of Gods, Men & Monsters.

message 6: by Jason (new)

Jason Burnett | 2 comments I would like to suggest November Road or The Chain as I didn't see either on the groups bookshelf

I hear they are extraordinary and King has said great things about them both. I've not nominated a book before so if I have to suggest only one it would be the The Chain.

Jeanette Bedson | 2 comments Life After Life by Kate Atkinson

I love both of those suggestions! But Jerusalem was very long...

Wyatt | 90 comments Once again, no idea how to link it but the Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 52 comments I'd like to nominate a classic of apocalyptic horror, one that King himself recommends = Alas, Babylon Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank by Pat Frank . It's old and therefore cheap via Kindle, which helps at holiday ($$$) time! Thanks. --Jen from Quebec :0)

message 15: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Turner Id like to nominate The woman in black by Susan Hill.

I second Fragile Things... after my marathon with The Witching Hour I'm up for something shorter. Also fits with skeleton crew.

I'd love to third The Chain! I've read it already, but it's a great book!

I still haven’t finished “THE WITCHING HOUR”.
Just sayin’...

message 24: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfree46) | 48 comments THE WITCHING HOUR was what I was referencing.

message 25: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders is a beautiful collection, and may be just the ticket. With collections you can pick up and leave off with no threat of getting lost.

To give us a Sweet Sixteen, I'll add a nomination. It's one that I've been wanting to re-read for awhile so I can continue with the series.

The poll is live: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Note that I did not include Swan Song, as it is already on the Group Shelf. Also, where two books were nominated by a person, I picked the first, except where designated "if I had to pick one".

I did include David's self nomination, as I could not see where that is strictly against the nomination rules, as it often is in groups. However, if we see that people are joining the group for the sole purpose of voting up this book to rig the poll, they will be removed from the group and the book will be pulled from the poll.

I don't expect issues, just good to get that out there ahead of time.

Have fun voting!

I wasn't sure either, so tried to err on side of leniency. I'll talk to Angie though and see if it's a "thing" in this group.

message 38: by Marlise (new)

Marlise (mawz76) | 119 comments I believe that Angie typically states no nomination of your own book but I don't believe she stated it this last time, so maybe she's changing it?

message 39: by Jenny (new)

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments Although I believe that there is something about nominating your own books but how else can you get your books read? My two cents. As long as we can purchase this in a physical book then let the people decide whether to read this or not. Remember not everyone reads electronic, which does remind me of a King short story. Which one though is the question??

message 40: by Atlanta (new)

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 107 comments I’m not one for self promotion 🤷‍♀️ but I’m not an author so, carry on.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments Yes, that was the one. I liked how the book by Dickie was thrown across the room. Nothing better than throwing a classic....

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Atl wrote: "Thanks, I didn’t know we were allowed to nominate our own books."

The idea was that these were books that King was supposed to have liked and recommended. So I guess if King recommended his book then we should add it to the list.
