Cassie | 370 comments I just checked this out and am going to try really hard to add it to my list of current reads.... I might have bitten off more than I can chew for December, but it's been on my list for a while!

Lindsay | 459 comments Cassie understandable. I think a lot of people feel that way in the end of the year crunch to meet their goal. I do!

I will likely have to wait until this weekend to start. Kids sports and holiday madness really kill that reading time.

Lindsay | 459 comments Sitting down to start this right now!

Ilona | 4698 comments I finished my book for another buddy read last night, so I am ready to start this one. It's been a while since I read To Kill a Mockingbird, and I hope that I remember enough to read this book.

Lindsay | 459 comments Ilona I don't think you have to worry. the plots don't intertwine, just the characters.

Ilona | 4698 comments I have read 25% but am so bored. Nothing is happening so far, but I keep hoping it will get better...

So, right after I wrote this last message the story picked up because (view spoiler) happened. At that point the story accelerated and I decided to finish it in one sitting, mainly because I did not want to spend more days with this book.

Lindsay | 459 comments Ilona I 100% agree with you. I hated this book. And I feel very bad for Harper Lee because she did not want this published in her lifetime. She chose to show the world Mockingbird instead, and she chose rightly. You can see how much she grew as a writer in Mockingbird.

Cassie | 370 comments So, I didn't love the book.... but I didn't hate it either. The characters were somewhat infuriating, and definitely didn't match what I expected / remembered of them. It's been a long time since I've read Mockingbird, so that might be part of my problem.

As an undergrad, I studied History (with a focus on US) so I was very familiar with the Brown v Board decision, and its aftermath. For me, all of this seemed very believable. Not "right", but I could absolutely see much of this happening.

Overall, I'm glad I read the book. I don't see this being a book I read multiple times though!
