Here I am to start our discussions about Euphoria, and let me tell you: this has just become my favorite book of the year.

Through this reading, I felt like I was sitting with an old friend, the way King immerses us so fully in the lives of her characters, her so complete research to write this book and the story it self...a love triangle and then a love story which was never meant to be. And it hurt. The way Nell and Fen are so different, she is empathically and Fen is compelled mostly by opportunism. The way Nell connects with Bankson, bringing life to this whole story. But also, how Nell is completely passionate about what she does. How she seems to be able to connect with the tribe, trying to understand their way of living and their culture. How she cares about the people.

Nell's diary interspersed with Bankson's narrative is brilliant and each page of the book permeates with a delicate sensuality, and you can really feel close to the characters. Nell as a woman and a populariser of anthropology, was bound to encounter fierce criticism. But more than just an outstanding scientist, she is able to embrace and be embraced by other people. And that's one of the reasons why the end of this book in even more hard to take in. The end completely broke me.

I can't explain exactly why this book became something close to my heart, it just happened thought the reading (as usually happens with the best books) and I'm really grateful Sarah recommended this one. Euphoria was hard to read sometimes and also, amazing. I still feel like I have a lot to learn from Nell and from Lily King.

What about you all? Did you like this book? Tell me what's on your mind!
