MountainKat | 31593 comments 🌹The Bachelor Team Challenge - Round 3🌹
🌹Theme - First Love🌹

The dates will begin on Saturdays at 6 PM EST, at that time the task for each date will be announced. Books must be completed and posted by the following Friday at Midnight EST, except when on your 'DestinationDate' when you will have until the second Friday. Roses will be awarded before the next date begins. Each date we will be working towards spelling out B-A-C-H-E-L-O-R. The tasks for each letter will be posted in advance, but you will not know which task will be used until the date begins.

Roses are earned by:
🌹 The First Rose 🌹 Teams earn this rose by reading 4 books fitting the task during the date. (One rose possible per team per date.)
Bonus roses may be earned by:
🌹 Speed Dating Rose 🌹 The team that finishes has 4 members finishing 4 books (1 each) and posts in the Q&A/Announcement thread first wins this bonus rose. Note, posting is required to earn this rose. (One rose possible per date.)
🌹 Team Dating Rose 🌹 Teams with each member completing the task (with a minimum of 6 books read) earn this additional rose. (One rose possible per team per date.)
🌹 Serial Dating Rose 🌹 For every multiple of 8 books read, teams will earn a rose. So 8 books is one rose, 16 books is 2 roses, 24 books is 3 roses and so on. (Number of roses will vary each date.)
🌹 Multiple Date Rose 🌹 The player who reads the most books for the date earns this bonus rose for their team. (One rose possible per date unless there is a tie.)
🌹 Longest Date Rose 🌹 The player that reads the longest book for the date earns this bonus rose for their team. (One rose possible per date unless there is a tie.)
🌹 Page Turner Rose 🌹 The team that reads the most combined pages for the date, English language editions only for page count, earns this bonus rose. (One rose possible per date unless there is a tie.)
🌹 Scavenger Hunt Rose 🌹This special rose is earned by finding a book that fits each rule for the letter the date represents, for example B is for Big Apple (set in NYC), Body Art (tattoo on cover), Beginning (first in series/trilogy) and Beach (beach on cover or setting with beach). After posting your completion, post in the Q&A thread. This rose may be earned multiple times per date but only once per book. The first person to post each book claims the rose for that book, other books could earn it though. (Number of roses available per date will vary.)

Teams will not be eliminated even if they earn no roses, they will have a chance to catch up by earning additional roses on other dates. Players will be eliminated if they do not complete the task on two consecutive dates. Eliminated players will not be replaced. Remember, players are allowed to read multiple books for a given date in order to earn bonuses and/or to make up for teammates who do not read their book or who have been eliminated.

MountainKat | 31593 comments ❤️ Information required when posting your completion/s: ❤️

❤️ Date Task
❤️ Book/cover link
❤️ Page numbers with source
❤️ How book qualified, with links or cover as necessary. Links required for lists, tags and other editions.
❤️ Dated Completed with Rating.
❤️ If this is your second (or more) book for the task, also include that information.

Please include only this information. A small review may be included if desired, but is not required. No other discussion allowed though.

❤️You will need make a new post for your completions.❤️ If you update a prior post, i.e., if you saved posts for your completions, they will be missed when I do the accounting for each date. Make sure your books count - make a new post!

Although you will not need to make selection posts like in the PtP, your teammates might like ideas for what to read so sharing what you're reading could be very helpful. If you have any question if your book qualifies, it would be better to find out before you read it - ask your teammates or in the Q&A/Announcement thread.

DO NOT DELETE COMMENTS OR POSTS! Even if your book doesn't qualify or you are asked for corrections, do not delete your comment. Deleted comments will confuse the tracking and may lead to books being missed! If you wish, you may strike through your comment using < s > ... < /s > without the spaces, but do not delete the comment or post!

Books must be a minimum of 90 pages and MPG Romance. Contemporary Romance, Historical Romance, Paranormal Romance or similar is acceptable, but it must be romance. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS on the MPG Romance rule. Audiobooks and rereads are ok. Books can only be read once per person during the challenge even if it fits multiple categories. Once the task for the date is announced, you may not tag a book so that it fits or edit any lists - this must be done before the date begins.

MPG = Main Page Genre:
On the main page of the book on the right hand side there is a section that says "Genres". Anything listed under that section is counted as an MPG.

MPG Romance = Main Page Genre Romance:
In the "Genres" section described above, there must be 'Romance". It could be Contemporary Romance, Historical Romance, Paranormal Romance or MM Romance, but it has to have 'Romance' listed.

MountainKat | 31593 comments Completion Posts

When making your completion posts, remember you must include how the book/s qualify. If the task states, for example (and this is just an example!):

A is for Athlete - Read a sports romance, qualification from the title, précis, list or tags.

Saying 'the hero is a runner' or 'MC is an athlete' doesn't qualify the book. Using 'précis states that hero is a football player' or 'tagged sports by 7 people' does qualify the book. Remember that links are required for lists, tags and different editions.

Also, when using the cover as the qualifier, post the cover image in your completion.

Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.

Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the page count and edition - say so (see above edition or something similar)! That saves us all some steps. But please double check your links!

You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.

I will be tracking each team's completions and using the captains' tracking to confirm before awarding roses at the end of each date.

Captains, anything you can do to help is appreciated, particularly with the Longest Date and Page Turner Roses!

Captains, please reserve a few spaces for tracking.

Introduce yourselves to your teammates. Let then know where you are from, what your interests are in life and in books! Consider friending each other, that makes it easier to follow the goings on.

Your first task as a team is to come up with a team name. The theme of First Love and your team name should relate to that. Captains, please post your team name in the Q&A thread when you have decided.

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments Hi Team!

I'm Karen, and I live in the middle of nowhere in NW Washington state. It's beautiful and I love living here, but being almost a 30 minute drive from the nearest grocery store or gas station can be a pain at times!

I've been involved in both of the previous Bachelor challenges, but only participated in the first one...assisted Kat with hosting duties in the last round since she was recovering from surgery in the early rounds.

I read probably 95% romance, maybe even more than that, but will throw in a VERY occasional mystery/thriller or general fiction if something catches my eye. There's not much in the romance genre that I don't read and enjoy, from G-rated to erotica (most of what I read probably falls right in the middle of that range though). I also read almost any sub-genre, although most Inspirational tends to really irritate me so I avoid it, and I'm pretty picky about YA - generally need a recommendation from someone who I know has similar tastes to mine to take a chance on it. Other than those two categories, I'm pretty much open to anything.

Our first task is to come up with a team name, and the theme for this round is "First Love". I hope at least one of you is better at team names than I am, because creativity is not my strong suit and I'm drawing a complete blank on this one.

So, take a few minutes to introduce yourself, and if you have any ideas for a team name, definitely put them out there even if you don't like them or think they're silly. Sometimes even a not so good suggestion will spark a great idea!

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 2965 comments Hi Everyone!

I’m Hazel from Glasgow, Scotland. I live with my husband my 10 year old son, our 16 year old cat and as of last week my father-in-law.

I love romance and read a variety of sub genres. This year I’ve read quite a few dark romances which I’ve enjoyed but I’m also a lover of YA/NA.

I have captained in both the last rounds of bachelor but I do everything on my phone as i can’t access GRs from my work laptop and it got crazy messy for me checking all the tags for scavenger roses. I’m also bringing a lot of work home for the next few months so opted out of being captain this time. I’m looking forward to playing!

Name suggestions:
Love at first bite
My first, my last, my everything - (I really hate that song though!)

I’ll try and think of some more X

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments Hey everyone! This is kind of weird for me, because for I think the first time ever there's nobody on my team that I've had a lot of interaction with before this. Most of you I recognize by name and have been in challenges with you before, but little or no direct contact (other than maybe exchanging picks in the M&G). I've sent friend requests to all of you - except Hazel...you beat me to it! 😉 I think mariella is our only newby - welcome! I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

CB (cb33) | 1312 comments Hello! This will be my third BTC, looking forward to getting to know everyone. Currently live in Northeast Ohio. I enjoy reading UF and romance, and in the romance space particularly enjoy these days paranormal, mafia, and sports romances.

I’ll admit I’m not particularly creative when it comes to team names, but I like some of the suggestions. Backseat Bandits makes me laugh, that’s probably my favorite so far.

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments It's good to see the team starting to come together! Still a couple of people left to check in, but we'll get there...

As I said before, I'm horrible at names and will go along with whatever the majority wants. My only addition to the process is a modification of a previous suggestion - The "Young" Romantics.
Young is in quotes because (speaking only about myself here) not all of us can come close to qualifying for that description anymore...unless of course you're speaking of "young at heart" - and sometimes that's even hard to claim these days! 😜

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments Here's a breakdown of the specific requirements for the possible themes for Date 1. Remember you can add appropriate books to shelves or lists up to the time the theme is posted, but not after. Just be sure any book you add fits the shelf/list you're adding it to.

Date 1 - B - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 1.

B is for Baubles - Read a book with jewelry on the cover.

To qualify for this task, the book's cover must clearly show at least one piece of jewelry. Necklace, bracelet, anklet, earrings, piercings, ring, cufflinks, tie clip, tiara or crown all would qualify. Watches, belt buckles and dog tags do not qualify for this task.

B is for Blue - Read a book with a primarily blue cover.

To qualify, the cover needs to be primarily a shade of blue. Include the qualifying cover in your completion post. If in doubt, please ask.

B is for Baby - Read a book with pregnancy, baby or child in story. Qualification can be from the title, précis, tags or lists.

To qualify for this task, the title, précis, list or tag would need to include the words 'pregnancy' or its variants, 'baby', 'child/ren' or 'kid/s'. The précis can also expressly state in other words that the book has a pregnancy in the story, this only applies to pregnancy and only to the précis. The child needs to be a minor, grown children would not qualify. These words need to be in context, 'baby, it's cold outside' does not work.

B is for Beast - Read a shapeshifter book. Qualification can be from the title, series, précis, tags or lists.

To qualify, your book needs to include in the title, precis, list or tags 'shapeshifter', 'shifter', or 'were-something'

Trio | 2789 comments So I live in NYC and I've got three (pretty grown-up) children haha. I read LGBTQ literature almost exclusively and I write reviews for a blog so sometimes I'm constricted to books which either don't fit our categories or aren't published/posted on GR yet. But I'll do my absolute best not to let the team down!

This is my 3rd Bachelor Challenge and I loved the last one - we got so competitive with the roses, honestly it was a blast! There are usually only a few other MM and FF readers so we compete against each other to get to claim the roses. It was a lot of fun :).

Names I like: Cherry Pop, The Young Romantics, and Love at First Bite.

Since we really need to get a name nailed down, here's a list of all the names that anyone has specifically mentioned liking:

Love At First Bite
Backseat Bandits
Cherry Pop
The Young Romantics

If everyone could pick their favorite from that list, maybe we can come up with a consensus. I'm good with whatever the majority chooses, but my favorite from that list is Love At First Bite.

Thanks!

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments Ok, everyone that has checked in seems to be good with Love at First Bite, so I'm going to go ahead and submit that to Kat. We still have one person that hasn't checked in and hopefully we'll hear from her soon, but we were one of the teams with an extra member so even if she doesn't show up we still have a full team.

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments I just went to the Q&A thread to post our name and saw that another team has already claimed "Love at First Read". Do you all want to stay with a name that is so similar, or go with a different choice?

I’m still fine with it.

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments The first theme announcement is in about 4 hours. Does anybody have books lined up? I did a quick stroll through my shelves and found a short book for each category in case anyone wants go for the Speed Dating rose.

I'm pretty laid back when it comes to challenges - not one to go crazy and really push for the win, but also willing to do as much as I can (within reason) to at least keep us competitive. I probably won't be much help with the Scavenger Hunt roses...I get frustrated too easily doing that kind of searching...but I should be able to consistently read 2-3 books/week, depending on how the theme fits with what I have going on in other challenges.

One other thing - we don't have to make selection posts in this challenge, but since multiple people can read the same book for the themes (just not for the Scavenger Hunt), if everyone could try to post what you're reading, or even any ideas you have for the theme, it might help give other team members ideas. It's not required, just something that could be helpful.

I have books for Blue and Beast. If you have quick reads for Baubles or baby I can try read quickly. I have no scavenger books for this one but I think I have some for A I need to double check them though.

Like you I am happy to do as much as I can but I don’t feel the need (or have the time) to read 100 books a week.

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments I'm happy to share what I have for possibilities. Two of the four are rereads and in the middle of series, so if you're as obsessed about reading series in order as I am they probably won't do you any good. Here's what I have:
Blue: Death and Her Devotion (Rogue Vows, #1) by Kendra Elliot
Baby: Taken in Death (In Death, #37.5) by J.D. Robb
Bauble: The Governess Affair (Brothers Sinister, #0.5) by Courtney Milan
Beast: True Colors (Elder Races, #3.5) by Thea Harrison

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 2965 comments Here is what I had in mind as my first book for each category

Bauble: Black Sheep (Dirty Mafia Duet, #1) by Meghan March cufflink on male arm

Blue: City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare on a list for blue covers

Baby: This Beautiful Thing (Young Love, #1) by Amanda Heath on a list

Beast: City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare tagged

I’ll check out the ones you’ve posted Karen. I do like to read a series in order.
