I love "Picturing and Poeting" by graphic designer Alan Fletcher. It's not about the history, etc. of design per se, but I always find it interesting to read books written by graphic designers and other artists.
so far this one...Challenging the Big Brands: How New Brands Win Market Share with Innovative Design
hey everyone....I am a psych major and am going back to school for architectural design. I would love to meet with anyone in regards to the fiel

Hi, Rene - I'm a retired psychotherapist, and went back to school for graphic design. maybe someone will want to do a study on us!!!
i'd say architecture is a better choice than graphic design, depending on what you want to do with the degree in our crazy economy. I found my psych background very helpful - for understanding clients' needs, and knowing how to relate to them.
This group seems to be dead...Perhaps I could revive it? :)
Just finished "Just My Type" by Simon Garfield - it's almost like a fun novel, a non-fictional book that is very easy to read. Many what you might find 'not-so-relevant' facts about type and their designers. Recommended!
Agree — "Just My Type" by Simon Garfield was a fun read! This is one of the few books about typography that the non-designer may enjoy as much as us type nerds.
My favorite book which I read recently was Graphic Design Thinking: Beyond Brainstorming by Ellen Lupton.
Thinking with Type is great. I'd add Pioneers of Modern Typography, by Herbert Spencer. It really opened my eyes and showed me what was possible when working with type.
