Laura Book 2 takes place immediately following book one.

Laura I’m at 64 % where are you Michelle?

Michelle | 3257 comments Dante has just arrived at her door. So early in the book.
Lord but I'm hating Xan. All the mixed signals.

The whole time they were dancing I was thinking don't forget to let slip bout guy blackmailing you.

Laura I like Dante. He needs his own book. Sebastian needs his own book too. I don’t get why it’s been up to Cosima and Sebastian to support the family.; sending them money, paying for Elena and Giselle’s school etc. Their family is clueless. Cosima basically disappeared for a year and they never questioned it. Their mom is worthless.

Michelle | 3257 comments Yes. I really think Sébastien needs his story told. Dante? Not sure if I want to know how he gets his HEA

It's always bugged me. Why the youngest became the bread winners. Yes Cosima at age fourteen started modeling so she brought money but protect the family as well?

Ja. The mother was never my favorite. You suffer for years and do nothing to stop it? All because you are a good catholic? Yet you have children by another man. No the mother from Evolution and this duet are not the same and in both I didn't particularly like her.

Laura I’m thinking Elena and Dante. She’s still a bitch and he could knock that chip off her shoulder. Getting the glimpses of Giselle and Sin make me want to re-read that.

Michelle | 3257 comments I'm having the same feeling. Wanting to reread the trilogy

As far as this book. I really loved how she cut the knees out from out of her father. I really thought we had seen the last of him. I actually thought Seamus had met with some "accident".

And that overhears conversation between Dante and Xan? That was so good. And that where I am right now. I hoping for some straight forward but I don't think Noel and the Order are done yet.

Laura Ok so you know about the birth control confession? I was fixated on that whole mystery. She had people meddling in every aspect of her life geez. And don’t you like Dante now? He has been there for her when no one else has.

Michelle | 3257 comments I've finished it. I don't know how I feel about the book.

I felt wrung out. Don't know if that was more RL or just them constantly being wronged. I mean just as I thought it's over out came another secret or she got taken. It seemed that it always happens at a big event a well. I think I said it before but I don't appreciate intrigue. I start getting frustrated and just want to read the last few chapters. But I didn't. Overall I think it wasn't bad just not my genre

I want Sebastian's story. And though I want to read about Dante I don't know if I like Elana enough to suffer this authors drama.

Exactly !!! Being a pawn and not even knowing. I wonder if it's better to know or find out or just live you like without knowing ? Noel really was a monster. And the son? 14and already a monster. I couldn't feel any sympathy for Mrs White. She entered that lie knowing what it was. She was no innocent girl

The birth control thing? I int know if I buy that. Te fate all of a sudden have tat much influence? Remember the doctor was more scared of that person than Alexander. If I was Noel or anyone from the Order maybe but not Seamus.

Laura I’m done too, and that was one wild finale. I don’t mind all the action and intrigue and the kidnappings etc. All that is right up my ally. I’m into the whole damsel in distress angle. The 14 year old monster was horrifying. Especially with him not having a problem with terrorizing his own mother. I had no problem with her getting a bullet to the head. Cosima was resourceful but I think her fighting them off after being starved tortured etc was pretty far fetched. The epilogue made it seem like Sebastian should be next but it is Dante. I will read it. Do you think the epilogue set up an Elena and him story. Who knows maybe it would be more like Evolution but then with him a mob boss probably not.

Laura All I know is I’m ready for some sweet holiday reads after all that stress.

Michelle | 3257 comments Yes!!! She's had been starving herself yet she managed to run out the house and into the maze? I had a few of those moment. Something just didn't make sense.

If I'm really enjoying a book then I don't mind things making sense. I just write it off to literary licence. I can overlook a few things. But this has me questioning lots of details. Like why bring Seamus back into the story only to shut him down by telling him he isn't her bio father. It also didn't make sense that he had something to do with the birth control narrative. The family are close yet nobody questions or is easily lead off topic about how she earned the money. I'd have been suspicious about the fact that I'm not seeing anything modeling wise.
I also didn't really like how Alexander was always two steps behind his father. He was bringing down the Order when his mother is murdered. Why didn't Xan have more incriminating stuff on the father. I think I just struggled with his emotions that could so easily be used against him. It didn't read true to what was being said. (I don't know how to say that clearly. He was suppose to be this brute with no feelings. His father having brought him up in the Order. Him knowing what was expected and fighting against it. But I mean he has blood in his hands surely he should have know things and not constantly have his father giving him help. I'm thinking of the punishment at his wedding after Cosi ran away. Things like that just weakened him in my eyes. He should have back up or plans separate from Noel that could have been used instead of his father's suggestion)
Maybe I'm looking for reasons not to love this book. It just like not love for me.

OH yes. Something light. I'm readding a nonsense something then I'm visiting with Roarke and Eve. I'm trying to leave a lot of books for 2020 challenges. Can't believe I've signed up for 4 already.

Laura Starved weak and managed to take mounted antlers or whatever the hell it was and stab the kid with it. Lol.
I agree that Seamus just going away made no sense. Also Noel was under house arrest? Why? He had free range to cause havoc. Also wasn’t Xan a teenager when his mom was murdered? He wasn’t taking down the order at that time. He thought Salvatore killed her at that point.
It’s a book about slavery, and the mob so anything goes I guess. I just suspended belief and went with it. I was entertained and I thought it was very exciting at times. I liked book 2 better as book one was sooo dark, and I wasn’t in the mood for a read that dark when I started it. I liked the glimpses of Sin and Giselle and I never got how Sin was best friends with Cosima now I know.
I’m giving book 13 1/2 stars and book 2 - 4 stars.

4 challenges yikes. Good luck! I did 2 yearly challenges this year and usually do the monthly challenge with another group. I think for next year I’m going to make my monthly plan shorter. Leave more wiggle room for mood reads, new releases. Sometimes I felt like I was a slave to my list.

Michelle | 3257 comments Yes. I also enjoyed book 2 much more than book 1. I suppose that all the dark and slavery was firmly established in book 1, no need to do that again

Alexander was 25 or there abouts when his mom was killed. Remember Cosima is 18 but he was mid 30s almost 40 when they get back together.

I think for me it was a 3.5 * because I couldn't suspend belief. And what with prince Andrew recently in the news with his association with epstein. Was ringing bells of truth.

Anyway as a whole, both books together worked for entertaining but now I need something way to the opposite side of darkness. Don't know if I can do Christmas themed but something will pop up that will work.

Michelle | 3257 comments Actually did 2 of those challenges that I'm going to do again 2020 but I thought can't do the same thing every time and joined more 🤦‍♀️. Why do I do this to myself.as for the planned reading. It actually helps me. But I hear what your saying. When I started I did the same and then I just thought no let's read whatever and have a guidelines with the planning.
