Some people can read multiple books with ease while others like myself find it a bit hard so we tend to stick with one book at a time. What do you like to do and why?

I would like to read several books at once but i'm afraid that it would get mixed up in my mind. What do you do to keep stories from being mixed up? do you read one fiction and one non-fiction only? Tell me I am very curious

If we're talking novels, I typically stick to one. Usually while reading it though, I'll read some comics/graphic novels or scripts on the side.

But I'm with you, if we're talking a longer story, I want all my attention on it.

Most of the time (if not all!) I just read one book. When I say that I don't include things like buddy reads, my mum reads to me, I read to my brother and some non-fiction books won't count either.

Usually my currently-reading shelf on goodreads will have 3 or 4 books on it. 1 of those will be the book I'm reading right now. If that doesn't make any sense here's what my currently-reading shelf has on it at the moment.

Glow - buddy read with my sister and mum.
Elephant Whisperer - mum is reading to me
Treasure Island - I'm reading to my brother
and.....
Emma - I'm reading this! It's also a group-read

I've done it before, but I've found that I usually end up putting the other ones away and focusing on one book at at time.

This is going to sound a bit weird, but I feel sort of insecure if I'm not reading more than one book at once. If I get into a bit of slump with one book, like if it's at a boring part or I need time to get over what just happened I can just switch to one of the other books I'm reading. I must have a good memory or something because I never seem to get them mixed up.

I'm usually reading a fiction and a non-fiction, then perhaps a buddy read(s), an audiobook, an ebook and/or a study read (for example at the moment I'm reading a lot of Shakespeare plays for an online course I'm doing). At the moment I'm reading...

So yeah, I like reading multiple books at once. :)

Usually I read multiple books whenever I felt kind of bored. Mostly all the time even if when I'm working. I know it's a bad working habit but don't worry I'm working on it. So, back to topic, the reason I read multiple books is that I'm weighing each of them into how much it excites me, how much it caught my attention. A "book game" as what my mind calls it, a book eliminating game. The book that excites me most will be the winner it will be the book I'll finished first and the rest will be next. It's silly.

Welp... I'm back to reading multiple books again. This time, I have a classic book, a fiction book, a non-fiction book, and an audio book on tap.

I'm doing okay so far, but I only just started two more of them today.

I have started to read multiple books but it's only two, one for school and one for pleasure.

I usually tend to stick with one book at a time. But you'll always find that my Goodreads Currently Reading shelf will have multiple books on it at a time all the time.

I will read a book and sometimes I'll lose interest in it, so I'll leave it in my CR shelf but read a book that will interest me, then get back to the one I put down.

I'm normally just a one book girl, but every now and then I end up starting another book while I'm still reading the first.
I've never had the problem of mixing up characters, though sometimes I forget little details here and there. It's not so bad, perhaps try reading books about completely different things.

I do read multiple books at one time - but only when I'm re-reading. If it's a new book I'm reading for the first time I have to read just that book. (I re-read all the time). But for example at the moment, currently re-reading Order of the Phoenix, Game of Thrones, and Bitten by Kelley Armstrong.

But when I've finished them I'll pick up something new and that'll be all I read until it's finished!

I read tons of books at once. I like having different stories to read whenever I want. I read what I feel like reading at the moment. Of course, you then have a lot of books started and it can take a while to finish one. But that's the joy of it! I personally don't get them mixed up and enjoy comparing one book to another.
Think of it as this; you start the first book in a series then read a different book afterwards. After, when you read the second book from the series, the details might not be as clear as it was at first but you still remember the main events. In the end, that's what's important.

I usually switch between three or four books at a time. If a book really grabs me though I will stick with it to the end and then move on.

Sometimes I read multiple books at the same time and sometimes I can't and have to read one by one.

Right now I'm in one of those periods where I have to go one by one.

I can't find a book I can really get into at the moment so I'm reading four books at once :)

Well I generally never read more than two books at once,One book for enjoyment (not that I don't enjoy both) and usually a nonfiction or a book for school or something along those lines.I usually make sure the topics of the books are pretty separate so I don't get the story lines or characters mixed up or intertwined

I do the same as Pam. I usually stick with one but at the moment I am reading two. I wanted to re-read Gone With the Wind and needed something completely different when I got tired of reading it. Once I am finished with it I will probably go back to one book at a time.

I find it so hard to read multiple books at once.
