If there's a "how to" you'd like explained, post your question here.

Within each topic, you may ask questions about the "how to" and practice using the instructions.

Deb (deb605) Do you know of an easy way to import my series list from fictfact?

message 3: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Not a clue. Is there an import feature on Fictfact?

Let me check it out. I took my list from Shelfari and put it in an Excel spreadsheet and managed getting it here that way.

message 4: by Deb (new)

Deb (deb605) I'm not seeing one. I haven't been updating Shelfari since it kept going down over the summer. I guess I have to get more organized on this site. :)

I patched together my list from the 2-3-4 group...copy/pasted from my personal thread.

It will be less of a hassle here because you can link the books & the series in your post.

The instructions are now posted here:

Marking a Book as Owned

Laura (Kyahgirl) (kyahgirl) Is there a place with 'how to' on managing how your group topics and discussion layout go. on my personal page I keep messing up. I want to organize by category and month but so far not got what I want and can't figure out how to delete the stuff I put there!

message 9: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
Tell me more. You should be able to delete whatever you create.

Give me an example here of what you're trying to do.

message 10: by Laura (Kyahgirl) (new)

Laura (Kyahgirl) (kyahgirl) Ok, so, I want to lay it out with sections: Goals,
Series, Random Read, Non-Fiction, etc then under each section have the year then month.
So far i've made two topics and it came out as 'general' and January 2015. I made the group public so you should be able to see everything:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

You have to create folders. If I'm understanding you correctly, they are (so far):

1. Goals
2. Series
3. Random Read
4. Non Fiction

When you go to add a topic, you will see to the right "edit folders". Select that and get started.

Laura (Kyahgirl) (kyahgirl) ok, thanks, :-) I will scurry off to my workshop and try it!!

It's actually "add a folder." From Group Home, select "new" from Discussion Board. Then you'll see it.

message 14: by Laura (Kyahgirl) (new)

Laura (Kyahgirl) (kyahgirl) ok, so in case someone else is as confused as I was here is a piece of info I found out. I went and created the folders as you suggested but when I looked at group home nothing looked different. It wasn't until I tried putting a topic in, then picked a folder, and THEN the folder showed up. Its just a matter of figuring out the structure which had me baffled. Thanks for the help J.

message 15: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 12912 comments Mod
That's correct. Your folders won't display until you create a topic.

Tracey (trakka) | 1363 comments Is it me or is the Goodreads app not very good. I tried to vote on a poll yesterday and it would come up with the message "log in to vote". I was logged in and actually went to to the poll via a link on my messages page in the app and it still was coming up with the message.

The app is limited in functionality. If I remember correctly, you can't vote on polls through the app even though the option is there. Weird.

I refuse to use the app as there are too many functions I use that it won't support.

The app is fine, if I only update my reading progress late at night, and don´t wanna turn on my laptop :-) but I agree with you, too many functions aren´t supported by the app

Isn´t Shelfari not kind of the same as goodreads? Or am I totally wrong about that???

When you export your shelf/list from Shelfari, you get a .tsv file. Although GR uses .csv file, it should still read the .tsv file from Shelfari. At least it did for me when I did it but that was a couple of years ago.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) I don't know technology very well, so I have to ask, it the mobile version of goodreads on my iPod touch considered an app? Also, is the version located on my kindle an app too?

Does the icon on your iPod look like this:

 photo Goodreads.jpg

If so then it is the app.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) Thanks. I guess I should pull my laptop out more often. I'm so lazy, I just use what is already at hand - must be why I can't figure out how to do much. I play around at work sometimes on the work computer, but don't do it for long.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) Yeah Lauren, that is what it looks like on my iPod and my kindle.

I can tell when we've worked together on stuff whether you're on the app or from your work desktop. For most of the things you were wanting to do, it required you being on your desktop.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) See, like now I am listening to The Woman in White on my iPod touch and can tell when a message comes through, so I switch over and see what I'm missing. But the laptop takes undivided devotion. I can't read and play that way. I might turn it on later today since it is snowing all day and I'm not going out.
